PRODUCTIVITY

❑ It is the measure of the efficiency of man, machine or even

an activity.

❑ How to quantify productivity?

❑ Is it Output / Input
❑ Is it the quantity of work done per man per day
❑ Or is it expressed it in terms of cost

❑ It can be expressed in any way to suit the scenario.

BENTONITE FLUSHING

❑ The density of bentonite

increases as it mixes with the
sand.
❑ Bentonite flushing is done to
maintain the density of
bentonite slurry in the trench.
❑ Bentonite is continuously
added to the trench from one
end and removed from the
another end.
❑ This process is done till the
polymer density falls below
1.2 g/cc

MPSA PRINCIPLE

❑ Objectives of Productivity Measure System is to identify if there

is the problem in the productivity.

❑ Measure the factors Significant (Critical) activities, it can be

labor intensive as well as machine intensive.

❑ MPSA Principle : Measured Productivity for Significant Activities

❑ Here, trenching is the most significant activity.

PRODUCTIVITY ANALYSIS

❑ Total Scope for Diaphragm Wall = 182 m

❑ Size of 1 Diaphragm wall Panel = 6 m X 0.8 m
❑ Depth of Diaphragm Wall = 16 m
❑ Number of Bites require for 1 Panel = 3
❑ Total time require in complete trenching process = 6.6 Hours
❑ Time require for trenching of 1 Bite = (6.6/3) = 2.2 Hours
PRODUCTIVITY ANALYSIS

❑ Productivity = Output / Input

Output = Grabbing in Rm

Input = Working hours of Piling Rig

❑ Actual Productivity = Grabbing (in m) / Time(in hours)

= 16 / 2.2 = 7.27 Rm / Hr

❑ Planned Productivity = 10 Rm / Hr

CONSEQUENCES

❑ Planned Duration for Construction of Diaphragm Wall in Launching

Shaft = 68 Days

❑ Actual Duration for Construction of Diaphragm Wall in Launching

Shaft = 103 Days

❑ Number of Days lagging behind = 35 Days ( Almost 50% more than

the Planned Schedule)

❑ Per month Hire charges of D-Wall Rig = 11 Lacs

❑ Leads to 17 Lacs more cost only for Rig Hire charges.

REASONS FOR LOW PRODUCTIVITY OF D-WALL RIG

❑ Commissioning of D-Wall Rig is not done properly

❑ Lack of periodic maintenance

❑ Frequently breakdown of equipment

❑ Time taken by the operator to adopt the site conditions.

❑ Inadequate weather (Rainfall)

REASONS FOR SCHEDULE OVERRUN

❑ Almost 7 Days D-Wall Rig remains breakdown

❑ 11 days because of delay in Cage fabrication work and Stopend

removal

❑ Almost 5 Days have gone idle because of rainfall

❑ 8 Days delay due to hinderances caused by utilities during the

trenching of Guide wall

❑ 4 Days delays due to delay in approval of GFC drawings during the

construction
