INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Nowadays, the most prevalent thing that students or children heed for are social vices. Practices

which involves addiction that makes them ecstatic or relaxed but considered to be unhealthy in all

dimensions of human wellness, people are much practicing this kind of behaviour especially students and

as time goes on, it turns into a habit that is known as rude and informal that affects the norms of the

society. There are different kinds of social vices and some of them are activities that most students are

capable of doing, examples include cultism, indecent dressing, gambling, smoking, smartphone overuse,

truancy or absenteeism, and procrastination on school works

Since most of the students are experiencing adolescence especially on Senior High School level,

they are very vulnerable to temptation which triggers their urge to try something new or to be deceived by

their peers. This is because on adolescent stage, a child’s behaviour changes and multiple development

can be observed, it means that they still need proper supervision from adults in order to control their

capabilities.

Peer pressure is considered to be the major caused of students involvement on social vices.

Because of the level of their curiosity to learn bizarre things, it causes them smoke, drink alcohols,

practice truancy, and so on. In other cases, a child tends to act because of threat given by their peers and

avoidance of being labeled as coward. Boastfulness and arrogance also force a child to act mighty among

their friends by practicing social vices. Lack of parental care and attention also leads to a child’s

downfall, without proper parenting a child’s freedom to do social vices is limitless and some cases leads

to rebellion. Negligence of parents can make their child to turn to their friend or lover to seek for love and

attention and often leads them to deadly acts.

Iloilo Doctor’s College SHS Students are considered to perform well on their school and also are

active on social gatherings or parties. These students typically spend their time going to school and

sometimes behave differently outside their campus. Doing projects, assignments, and performances are

also their task in order to succeed in their academics and it is based on hard work and determination. At

the end of the school year each student is awarded for their accomplishment which makes them closer on

chasing their dreams. There are certain factors that could change this process that could possibly ruin the
