Design of Electrical Cable Trench

This report presents the detailed structural design of the electrical cable trench. The design has been based on the
limit state principle according to the relevant design standards stated in the report. The structural verifications have
been carried out for all possible limit state considerations by assessing the nature of structure and its behaviour
under the defined operational conditions. For the structural analysis and design mainly the Prokon software has
been used. Design equations are programed in the Excel sheets to simplify the design calculation process.

4 Support Conditions

The foundation is supported on exixting soil layers for base slab and the analysis will be carried out using
modulus of subgrade reaction theory. The modulus is used to compute node springs based on the contributing
plan area of an element to any node.

It is conservatively taken here the allowable bearing capacity of the existing level ground is 70kN/m2 and
the value of modulus of subgrade reaction is calculated for a 25mm settlement.

Therefore,
3
ks = 40*(SF)*qa kN/m
= 40*3*70
= 8400 kN/m3

Ki = ks * Effective Area
For 0.5m x 0.5m shell element model of the raft,

Kcorner = 21 kN/m

Kside = 42 kN/m

Kinterior = 84 kN/m
