1. Briefly explain how a sample of 50 subjects can be selected from a population of 500
students by using:
a. simple random sampling
Jadi kebarangkalian
ialah 50 dalam 500.
2. A small village has 204 people under the age of 18, 726 adults (over 18) and 268
pensioners. Jenny wishes to carry out a survey on whether or not the village needs a
new swimming pool. She decides to use stratified sampling based on age group so
that the sample is more representative of the whole population. Her sample size is 50
people. Work out the amount of people Jenny should select from each group.
Kampung kecil = 204 ( bawah 18 tahun ) , 726 ( atas 18 tahun ) , 268 ( pesara )
Populasi Kampung kecil = 1198 orang
( bawah 18 tahun ) = 204/1198 x 100% = 17.03%
( atas 18 tahun ) = 726/1198 x 100% = 60.60%
( pesara ) = 268/1198 x 100% = 22.37%
Untuk sampel 50
( bawah 18 tahun ) = 17.03/100 x 50 = 8.5 = 9
( atas 18 tahun ) = 60.60/100 x 50 = 30.3 = 30
( pesara ) = 22.37/100 x 50 = 11.2 = 11
3. The table shows the number of people in each age group who watched the school
sports.
Age group 0 - 16 17 - 29 30 - 44 45 - 59 60 +
Martin did a survey of these people. He used a stratified sample of exactly 50 people
according to age group. Work out the number of people from each age group that
should have been in his sample of 50. Complete the table.
