PANAGTUTUOK TI APO
On this day the Church recalls the entrance of Christ
the Lord into Jerusalem to accomplish his Paschal
Mystery. Accordingly, the memorial of this entrance
of the Lord takes place at all Masses, by means of the
Procession or the Solemn Entrance before the
principal Mass or the Simple Entrance before other
Masses. The Solemn Entrance, but not the
Procession, may be repeated before other Masses
that are usually celebrated with a large gathering of
people.

1. At the schedule time, the congregation assembles in a secondary church or
chapel or in some other suitable place distinct from the church to which the
procession will move. The faithful carry palm branches.
2. The priest and ministers put on red vestments for mass and go to the place
where the people have assembled. The priest may wear a cope instead of a
chasuble; in this case he removes the cope after the procession.
3. Meanwhile, the following antiphon or any other appropriate song is sung.

Hosanna iti Anak ni David, nainggasatan daytuy umay iti nagan ti Apo,
Isu ti Ari ti Israel: Hosanna iddiay kangatoan. (Mt. 21:9)
He then briefly invites the people to take an active part in this celebration. He may
use these or similar words:

6. Then the account of the Lord’s entrance is proclaimed from the one of the four
gospels. This is done in the usual way, or, if there is no deacon, by the priest.

7. After the gospel, a brief homily may be given. Before the process begins, the
celebrant or other suitable minister may address the people in these or similar
words:
Kakabsat,
Tuladentayo dagidi tattao a nangitantan-ok ken Apo Jesus,
ket aglibottayo a sikakapia.
8. The procession to the church where Mass will be celebrated then begins. If the
incense is used, the thurifier goes first with a lighted censer, followed by the
cross-bearer (with the cross suitably decorated) between two ministers with
lighted candles, then the priest with the ministers, and finally the congregation
carrying branches.
During the procession, the choir and people sing the following or other
appropriate songs.

9. As the procession enters the church, the following responsory or another song
which refers to the Lord’s entrance is sung.

10. When the priest comes to the altar he venerates it and may also incense it. Then
he goes to his chair (removes the cope and puts on the chasuble) and prays
immediately the KARARAG TI GIMONG, of the Mass, which concludes the
procession. Mass then continues in the usual way.

11. If the procession can be held outside the church, the commemoration of the
Lord’s entrance may be celebrated before the principal Mass with the solemn
entrance, which takes place within the church.
12. The faithful holding the branches, assemble either in front of the door or inside
the church. The priest and ministers, with a representative group of the faithful,
go to a suitable place In the church outside the sanctuary, so that most of the
people will be able to see the rite.
13. While the priest goes to the appointed place, the antiphon Hosanna or other
suitable song is sung. Then the blessing of branches and proclamation of the
gospel about the Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem take place, as above (nos. 5-7).
After the gospel the priest, with the ministers and the group of the faithful,
moves solemnly through the church to the sanctuary, while the responsory: “Idi
a sumrek ti Apo” (no. 10) or the other appropriate song is sung.
14. When the priest comes to the altar he venerates it, goes to his chair, and
immediately begins the KARARAG TI GIMONG of the Mass, which then
continues in the usual way.
15. At all other Masses on this Sunday, if the solemn entrance is not held, the Lord’s
entrance is commemorated with the following simple entrance.
16. While the priest goes to the altar, the entrance antiphon with its psalm or
another song with the same theme is sung. After the priest venerates the altar, he
goes to his chair and greets the people. Mass continues in the usual way.
17. Where neither the procession nor the solemn entrance can be celebrated, there
should be a bible service on the theme of the Lord’s messianic entrance and
passion, either on Saturday evening or on Sunday at a convenient time.

opening prayer.

19. The Passion is read by the deacon or, if there is no deacon, by the priest. It may
also be read by lay leaders, with the part of Christ, if possible, reserved to the
priest. It is proclaimed without candles or incense. The greeting and signs of the
cross are omitted. Only a deacon asks the blessing before the passion, as he does
the gospel.

When all this has been done, the Offertory Chant begins. Meanwhile, the ministers
place the corporal, the purificator, the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the altar.
The Priest, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly
raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:
Madaydayawka, O Apo a Dios dagiti amin a parsua,
imparaburmo kadakami daytuy a tinapay nga ita idatonmi met laeng Kenka.
