GUIDE CARD 2

Hello! This is me, MATTHEW.

Welcome to our exciting lesson.
Today, we will have an amazing
and thrilling adventure towards
a worthwhile learning
experience in logic about
propositions.

Having difficulty dealing

with the logical concepts Now, relax and enjoy this
of proposition? Worry no new learning escapade
more because I will be you are about to
your personal experience. As we go
companion in dealing through this material, you
with this mathematical will gradually learn how
concept that you will to illustrate and
surely appreciate in the symbolize propositions.
end.

Are you ready?

GUIDE CARD 3

A proposition is a declarative sentence that is

either true or false, but not both. If a proposition is true,
then its truth value is true, which is denoted by T; otherwise,
its truth value is false, which is denoted by F.

Propositions are usually denoted by small letters. For

example, the proposition
p: Everyone should study logic
may be read as
p is the proposition “Everyone should study logic.”

If a sequence of propositions is considered, we

denote the propositions by p1, p2, …

A compound proposition is a proposition

formed from simpler proposition using logical connectors or
some combination of logical connectors. Some logical
connectors involving propositions p and/or q may be
expressed as follows:

not p p or q
p and q if p, then q

where <.> stands for some proposition. A proposition is simple if it

cannot be broken down any further into other component
propositions.

ACTIVITY CARD 1 Proposition or Not?

Determine whether each of the following statements is a

proposition or not.

e: If you are a Grade 12 learner, then you are a
junior high school student.
f: The Earth is further from the sun than Venus.
g: How far is it to the next town?
h: Close the door.
i: There is life on Mars.
j: x + y > 10.
k: Do you want to go to the movies?
l: All cows are brown.
m: This book is not interesting.
n: 3 + 4 = 7.
o: Streets are wet only if it’s raining.

How Do You Value
ACTIVITY CARD 2
The Truth?

Given the following statements, identify its truth value.

Reason out if the statement is not a proposition.

a: Philippines is an archipelago.
b: Clean up your room.
c: The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
d: Come to class!
e: If you are a Grade 12 learner, then you are a
junior high school student.
f: The Earth is further from the sun than Venus.
g: How far is it to the next town?
h: Close the door.
i: There is life on Mars.
j: x + y > 10.
k: Do you want to go to the movies?
l: All cows are brown.
m: This book is not interesting.
n: 3 + 4 = 7.
o: Streets are wet only if it’s raining.

Determine whether the following statements are simple or

compound propositions. If a compound proposition, identify
the logical connectors.

a: Zamboanga del Sur is a province in Region IX.

b: Daniel will compete in an oratorical contest tomorrow.
c: Magnus will drive and I will sleep.
d: Either the ghost house is fun and exciting, or it is creepy.
e: If Jia will support, then Gamaliel will run for president.

6
ASSESSMENT CARD 1 Which is Which?

Determine whether each of the following statements is a

proposition or not.

a: Is the traffic heavy along Tambulig Rotonda?

b: Leave me alone!
c: x + 2 = 11.
d: 144 is a perfect square.
e: Keep right while passing through the corridor.
f: The year 2020 is a leap year and the equation
x4 + 25 = 0 has no real solutions.
g: -5 is not a negative number.
h: What is 5/10 in simplest form?
i: Justin Bieber has over one million followers on
Twitter and Instagram.
j: If Jerry receives a scholarship, then he will go to
college.

After all those activities that we

had together, now I am certain
that you can do this task on your
own. It’s your time to shine! Best
of luck to you, folk!

ASSESSMENT CARD 3
The Logical Components

Determine whether the following statements are simple or

compound propositions. If a compound proposition, identify
the logical connectors.

a: Hotdogs are made from finest dog meat.

b: Smoking is harmful and it is deadly.

ENRICHMENT CARD 1
Compoundness

For each of the following compound propositions, identify the

simple components and the logical connectors used.

a: You listened to metal music and the sounds are

too loud.

course.
c: Either it is sunny in Metro Manila or its streets are
flooded.
