KEEP IT CLEAN, KEEP IT GREEN PROJECT: A BEAUTIFICATION OF

THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE GROUNDS

A PROJECT PROPOSAL BY:

1 DVM A

NSTP-CWTS STUDENTS
RATIONALE

A well-maintained school provides a safe and attractive learning

environment for students. School beautification projects, however, can offer much

more than physical improvements to the school buildings and grounds. Through

cleaning and planting new flowers and shrubs, the students can take advantage of

educational, personal development and community building opportunities.

As youth and as National Service Training Program – Civic Welfare

Training Service students of the University of Southern Mindanao , we are obliged

to take care of the things that were gifted to this world. Our little ways help a lot in

improving a healthy environment.

“Big things come from small ones.” In line with this, this project aims to

beautify and sustain the grounds of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The team

will be required to clean-up the area between the College of Veterinary Medicine

main building and the College of Veterinary Medicine Annex building. In addition,

they will be required to beautify the area by adding plants and adding beautiful

decorations that can add to the aesthetic appeal of the area.

Keep it Clean, Keep it Green project aims to educate the youth concerning

the crisis of rubbish in the environment by learning through the experience from

real situation. The project also motivates the school and the community to initiate a
sustainable waste management system. This project will benefit both students and

community in long terms.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Every day, humans generate more waste even though landfill space is

declining, and careless disposal results in more litter turning up in the environment.

This waste releases harmful pollutants into the air, water, and soil, and can affect

wildlife.

The world used to have fresh air to breath and greenish surroundings.

Nowadays, the tables have turned and a big difference can be seen; from a clean

into a polluted environment. Several environmental issues such as floods, climate

change, melting of the polar ice caps and pollution are devastating the people of

this world. May it be from air, water or lands, the main cause of these problems are

the wastes that are thrown improperly

Restore what was lost; this project aims for the college surrounding that is

greenish. As students of the University of Southern Mindanao, a program that

reduces the chance of these problems from growing were planned and thought

through, a program that not only helps our own community but also the world we
live in. It will also serve as an inspiration in other schoolss to come up with the

same activities in order to maintain a clean and green environment.

PROJECT GOALS

One of the goals of this project is the most visible results of school

beautification projects, which are the changes to the physical surroundings. Picking

up litter and garbage and even planting new flowers will help to create a clean and

attractive learning environment. Physical changes inside the school could include

adapting the classrooms and common areas by encouraging the students to

decorate their surroundings.

Any changes to the school, whether to the physical buildings or to the

grounds, allow the children to develop a heightened awareness of the

environmental issues surrounding the school community. Discussion of how the

area came to be this way, whether by neglect, pollution or disrespect for property,

will illustrate the effects of people on the environment. Developing solutions to

improve the area and to keep it from regressing can create a sense of responsibility

in the students and a desire to preserve the changes. Identifying the immediate

natural environment and its characteristics as they plant, flowers and shrubs will

connect the students directly to the earth.

Building community relationships is an important goal, which will last

beyond the beautification project. Involve a variety of people in the project,

starting with the school community of teachers, students and support staff, and

moving outward to parents. Local businesses may donate supplies and local

organizations may offer to help. Developing a community sense of pride and

ownership, and contributing to the improvement of the local environment, will

establish lasting ties in the surroundings.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

 To have the students play leadership roles and take responsibility in the

planning and conduct of the beautification project.

 To learn about the biodiversity of the school grounds.

 To develop solutions to improve the area and to keep it from regressing can

create a sense of responsibility in the students and a desire to preserve the

changes.

 To raise environmental awareness and self-responsibility among students

and community.

 To educate student in waste management and crisis of raffle in the

environment .

 To initiate the sustainable waste system to the school.

RESULTS

Output

This project proposal aims to have a garden and also, a common area for the

students inside the campus to make use of as the team beautifies the grounds of the

College of Veterinary Medicine and also adding trash bins as we aim for a clean

surroundings as out output to be able to help the college in sustaining the grounds

and also the university and community.

Impact

A clean environment naturally motivates those in it to keep it so, with one

environmental awareness day, we seek to create enough momentum for the school

to get much cleaner in the span of a few weeks, and use this as a standard for the

students and visitors to keep, so long as the facilities required are in place.

With this in mind, a system of motivation is required, with messages on the

bins themselves and addresses from the student leaders on social media platforms

constantly encouraging the new trend of care for the environment.

EVALUATION

The school is a learner- centered institution wherein we recognize and

respect the range of rights of the students, and not just their right to be educated but

their rights to be healthy, to be given them opportunities to play and leisure, to be

protected from harm and abuse, to express their views freely, and participate in

decision- making according to their evolving capacities as well. It is a child

friendly- school that enables children to learn as much as their intellectual faculties

could take and equips them with knowledge and skills that they can use throughout

life thereby becoming responsible and productive members of the community and

society.

University of Southern Mindanao’s impact on the natural environment must

be taken into account when considering the overall sustainability of the College.

Every member of the College community influences the natural world in ways that

they consume products and create waste from what they use. This use and emission

of byproducts from the consumption of goods has an impact on the quality of our

surrounding environments. The individual human impact is known as an ecological

footprint, which represents the amount of land necessary to support a person's

lifestyle. University of Southern Mindanao, also has an ecological footprint that is

affected by its energy use, water consumption, land holdings, emissions from

energy consumption (greenhouse gas emissions), and physical and chemical waste.
This footprint can be reduced through efforts by the College to become more

sustainable, as well as through land holdings that can serve as an offset to carbon

emissions because plants naturally capture CO2 molecules out of the atmosphere.

University of Southern Mindanao’s Environmental Sustainability Proposal

will help to facilitate implementation of more sustainable methods and practices at

the College. Through this, the energy efficiency and overall sustainability of the

college may be improved. Sustainable practices are long-term investments in the

energy and resource efficiency of the College, and they help University of

Southern Mindanao to become a better steward of the environment. Lastly, being a

sustainable institution can be a draw for recruitment and retention of students,

particularly those who have an interest in global environmental issues.
