ENSURE SAFETY BEFORE RISING FROM OR

LEAVING OPERATOR’S SEAT

• Before rising from the operator’s seat to open/close

either side window or to adjust the seat position, be sure
to first lower the front attachment to the ground and then
move the pilot control shut-off lever to the LOCK position.
Failure to do so may allow the machine to unexpectedly
move when a body part unintentionally comes in contact
with a control lever, possibly resulting in serious personal
injury or death.
• Before leaving the machine, be sure to first lower the
front attachment to the ground and then move the pilot
control shut-off lever to the LOCK position. Turn the
key switch OFF to stop the engine.
• Before leaving the machine, close all windows, doors,
and access covers and lock them up.

S-5

SAFETY
INVESTIGATE JOB SITE BEFOREHAND

• When working at the edge of an excavation or on a road

shoulder, the machine could tip over, possibly resulting
in serious injury or death.
• Investigate the configuration and ground conditions of
the job site beforehand to prevent the machine from
falling and to prevent the ground, stockpiles, or banks
from collapsing.
• Make a work plan. Use machines appropriate to the
work and job site.
• Reinforce ground, edges, and road shoulders as
necessary. Keep the machine well back from the
edges of excavations and road shoulders.
• When working on an incline or on a road shoulder,
employ a signal person as required.
• Confirm that your machine is equipped a FOPS cab SA-1114

before working in areas where the possibility of falling

stones or debris exist.
• When the footing is weak, reinforce the ground before
starting work.
• When working on frozen ground, be extremely alert.
As ambient temperatures rise, footing becomes loose
and slippery.
• Beware the possibility of fire when operating the
machine near flammable objects such as dry grass.
• Make sure the worksite has sufficient strength to firmly
support the machine.
When working close to an excavation or at road
shoulders, operate the machine with the tracks
positioned perpendicular to the cliff face with travel
motors at the rear, so that the machine can more easily
evacuate if the cliff face collapses.
• If working on the bottom of a cliff or a high bank is
required, be sure to investigate the area first and confirm
that no danger of the cliff or bank collapsing exists. If any
possibility of cliff or bank collapsing exists, do not work
on the area.
• Soft ground may collapse when operating the machine
on it, possibly causing the machine to tip over. When
working on a soft ground is required, be sure to reinforce
the ground first using large pieces of steel plates strong
and firm enough to easily support the machine.
• Note that there is always a possibility of machine tipping
over when working on rough terrain or on slopes.
Prevent machine tipping over from occurring. When
operating on rough terrain or on slopes:
• Reduce the engine speed.
• Select slow travel speed mode.
• Operate the machine slowly and be cautious with M104-05-016

machine movements.

S-9
SAFETY
PROVIDE SIGNALS FOR JOBS INVOLVING
MULTIPLE NUMBERS OF MACHINES

• For jobs involving multiple numbers of machines, provide

signals commonly known by all personnel involved. Also,
appoint a signal person to coordinate the job site. Make
sure that all personnel obey the signal person’s
directions.

018-E01A-0481
SA-481

CONFIRM DIRECTION OF MACHINE TO BE

DRIVEN

• Incorrect travel pedal/lever operation may result in

serious injury death.

• Before driving the machine, confirm the position of the

undercarriage in relation to the operator’s position. If
the travel motors are located in front of the cab, the
machine will move in reverse when travel
pedals/levers are operated to the front.
SA-1265

017-E01A-0491

DRIVE MACHINE SAFELY

• While traveling, pay attention to the surrounding area

around the machine. Especially, pay attention while
traveling on slopes as they can be very hazardous.

• Operate the travel levers (pedals) only after confirming

which direction the machine will move when the travel
levers (pedals) are operated.
• Set the super long demolition front attachment to the
travel position (Refer to the Travel Operation group.)
• Never attempt to drive the machine on a slope with a
grade of 10° or more. (Refer to the Traveling on
Slopes group.)
• If the machine slips, and/or the machine become
unstable, stop traveling.
• Do not operate the swing and front attachment
function while traveling.

SAFETY
AVOID INJURY FROM BACK-OVER AND
SWING ACCIDENTS

• If any person is present near the machine when backing

or swinging the upperstructure, the machine may hit or
run over that person, resulting in serious injury or death.

To avoid back-over and swing accidents:

• Always look around BEFORE YOU BACK UP AND
SWING THE MACHINE. BE SURE THAT ALL BY-
STANDERS ARE CLEAR.
• Keep the travel alarm in working condition (if equipped).
ALWAYS BE ALERT FOR BYSTANDERS MOVING SA-383
INTO THE WORK AREA. USE THE HORN OR
OTHER SIGNAL TO WARN BYSTANDERS BEFORE
MOVING MACHINE.
• USE A SIGNAL PERSON WHEN BACKING UP IF
YOUR VIEW IS OBSTRUCTED. ALWAYS KEEP THE
SIGNAL PERSON IN VIEW.
Use hand signals, which conform to your local regula-
tions, when work conditions require a signal person.
• No machine motions shall be made unless signals are
clearly understood by both signalman and operator.
• Learn the meanings of all flags, signs, and markings SA-384
used on the job and confirm who has the responsibility
for signaling.
• Keep windows, mirrors, and lights clean and in good
condition.
• Dust, heavy rain, fog, etc., can reduce visibility. As
visibility decreases, reduce speed and use proper
lighting.
• Read and understand all operating instructions in the
operator’s manual.

021-E01A-0494

S-11
SAFETY
DO NOT OPERATE MACHINE OUTSIDE
SPECIFIED WORK RANGE

• Operate the machine within the specified work range.

Failure to do so may cause the machine to tip over,
and/or result in damage to the long front attachment.

SA-1116

SAFELY DRIVE MACHINE ON SLOPES

• Traveling on slopes is very hazardous. Reduce the travel

speed to prevent the machine from tipping over and/or
sliding.

• Set the super long demolition front attachment to the

travel position (Refer to the Travel Operation group.)
• Use a signal person.
• Under no conditions, attempt to drive the machine on
a slope with a grade of 10° or more. Do not drive di-
agonally across the slope surface, possibly resulting in
sliding accident.
• Finish the slope surface flatly. Remove a sudden
change in grade at the start and end of slopes. Suffi-
ciently reinforce slopes so that subside and/or col-
lapse doesn’t occur.
• Do not change travel direction on a slope. Sliding
and/or tipping over of the machine may result.
• Do not operate any actuators other than the travel
function while traveling on a slope. Do not operate the
travel mode switch while traveling on a slope.
• If the engine stalls on a slope, lower the crusher to the
ground. After returning all control levers to neutral, re-
start the engine.
• Reduce the engine speed to lower than the middle
speed. Select the SLOW travel mode. Slowly drive the SA-012
machine to prevent sudden start and stop operation.
• Unless the hydraulic oil temperature is sufficiently

Front
• Fasten the seat belt. Attachment
• As stability of the machine is reduced due to the working
position on the slope, the machine may tip over.
• When the machines on the slope, take care for the
followings.
1) Get a level, secure place and operate the machine.
2) Lower and roll in the bucket as much as possible.
3) Swing the machine as slow as possible. Travel Motor
• The long front attachment is heavier than the backhoe
front attachment. Accordingly, stability of the machine
with the super long demolition front attachment is re- SA-1155
duced. If machine is not operated correctly, the machine
may tip over, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

• Be sure to install the additional counterweight or the

increased weight one-unit type counterweight.
• Operate the front attachment within the range as illus-
trated toward the direction of the crawler. Failure to do
so may result in tipping over of the machine.
• When performing crushing work, park the machine on
solid and level ground strong enough to support the
machine. Then, operate the machine with the boom
raised to more than the specified boom angle. If the
boom is lowered to less than the specified boom angle,
the machine may tip over. Refer to the working range
diagrams for the specified angle.
• Do not operate the machine on a slope or crushed
materials. Make a plan to operate the machine so that
sufficient stability can be ensured.

loosened, consult your nearest authorized dealer.

IMPORTANT: Make sure bolt and nut threads are clean

before installing.
Apply lubricant (e. g. white zinc B solved
into spindle oil) to bolts and nuts to sta-
bilize their friction coefficient.
NOTE: Tightening torque required is shown in Nxm.
For example, when tightening a bolt or nut with
a wrench of 1 m length, turning the end of it with
a force of 120 N, the torque produced will be:

1 m ×120 N = 120 Nxm

To produce the same torque with a wrench of

0.25 m:
0.25 m × N = 120 Nxm

Necessary force will be:

120 Nxm ÷ 0.25 m = 480 N

MAINTENANCE
ADJUSTMENT OF SLOW RETURN VALVE IS
PROHIBITED

CAUTION: Never attempt to adjust the slow

return valve. If the front attachment operation
speed is increased by adjusting the slow return
valve, impact developed at the beginning of
operation will increase so that the machine may
be unstable, possibly resulting in tipping over of
the machine.
• The slow return valves are provided on the boom
Boom
for middle arm cylinder, arm cylinder, and crusher
tilt cylinder and boom lower circuits to adjust the
front attachment operation speed.
Operation speed is adjusted to the best range
when the machine is shipped from the factory.
Never attempt to adjust the slow return valve.
• In case the front attachment operation speed
becomes extremely slow, consult your nearest
Dealer.

PRECAUTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
/REMOVAL FRONT ATTACHMENT Counterweight (1)

CAUTION: Remove counterweight (1) if swinging

without the front attachment as toppling of the
machine may result when swinging with
counterweight left (1) attached.
Remove counterweight (1).

1. Installation/removal of the front attachment on solid

level and open ground.
2. Align the center of the front attachment with the crawler
center. Position the travel motors in the rear.
3. Remove the front attachment only after removing the
crusher and other working tools. Counterweight (2), (3) SA-1705

4. Counterweight (1) must be removed if swinging without

the front attachment.
Be sure to remove additional counterweight (1) before
rotating the upper structure as tipping is possible.
5. If swinging without the front attachment and with only
one-unit type counterweight (10800 kg, 23810 lb) (3)
attached, the machine may tip over. Before swinging,
remove only one-unit type counterweight (3).
6. When a super long demolition front attachment is
used, install a boom angle alarm limit switch. If the
work is done without the boom angle alarm limit switch, M16J-06-017
a boom angle alarm buzzer does not sound and the
machine may tip over. Before doing the work, install
the boom angle alarm limit switch.
7. The order of installation is as follows: (1) counterweight,
(2) Boom, (3) additional counterweight, (4) Front
attachment which do not have booms.
8. Never allow any person to enter the area below the
machine during work.
Always use blocks to securely support the machine in
the case where work must be carried out under the
machine.

9. As there may be residual pressure remaining in the
pipe lines. Before removing any plug from the pipe line,
slowly loosen the plug to check that the residual
pressure is completely relieved. Clean the removed
plug and store it in the tool box.
When the machine is hot immediately after use, hot oil
may spurt out, possibly causing severe burns. Wait for
the oil temperature to cool sufficiently before starting
the procedure above.
10. Never insert your fingers into pin holes when aligning
the pin holes.
11. When a hammer is used, metal pieces may fly off
possibly causing injury. Wear safety glasses, a hard
hat and any other necessary safety gear.

STORAGE
PRECAUTIONS FOR LONG TERM MACHINE STORAGE

In case the machine is to be stored for longer than one month, pay attention to the following points to prepare next
operation.

Precautions for Term Long Machine Storage

Precautionary Point Action to Be Taken
Machine Cleaning After sufficiently cleaning the machine, remove any soil or other debris adhered to
the machine.
Lubrication/Greasing Check lubricants for level and contamination. Add or change as necessary.
Grease all greasing points.
Coat grease to exposed metal surfaces which are subject to rust
(such as the cylinder rods).
Battery Remove and store after recharging fully, or remove negative terminal.
Coolant Add anti-rusting agent. If storing in extremely cold areas, either add extra
anti-freeze or drain coolant completely to avoid freezing. In this case, place a sign
reading “NO COOLANT".
Protection Against Dust Store the machine in a dry storage area using a protective cover.
and Moisture
Tools Store tools after cleaning and checking.
Operation for Lubrication If oil film on the metal surfaces is lost, rust may begin, possibly causing abnormal
wear of the machine when the machine operation is restarted. Perform lubrication
operation once a month at a regular interval. Check the coolant and lubricant
levels at this time as well.

NOTE: Lubrication operation is a series of warm-up, travel, swing and front attachment operation to repeatedly
cycle each function a few times.
Lubricants will deteriorate during long term storage of the machine. Be sure to carefully check the
lubricants before restarting operation of the machine.

Battery Removal and Reconnection Precautions

Contact the nearest dealer when removing or reconnecting the battery after a one month period or more.

ATTACHMENTS

CAUTION:
• Carefully read and follow the instructions
written in the crusher instruction manual
when mounting the crusher attachment.
• Attach the following specified weights when
mounting the crusher. There is a danger of
tipping or damage to the front if more than
the specified weight is attached.

1. Within the crusher models, there are larger, heavier

models available. The maximum weight of crusher that
is allowed to be installed on this machine will be
determined by its specification. Therefore, decide
which model is installed by consultation with your
nearest dealer.
2. When the machine is operated with an attachment
other than bucket, generally heavier loads are applied
to the base machine than compared with bucket only
operation. Therefore it is important that correct
operation is carried out to prevent damage not only to
the attachment but to the base machine as well.
Thoroughly read and understand the base machine
operator’s manual and the attachment manual to
prevent accidents.
