Job Summary
We are seeking a Program Consultant to be responsible for facilitating workshops for the
Michigan Hispanic Collaborative’s program, La Próxima Generacíon (Próx Gen). Our vision is
to break the cycle of Hispanic poverty by accelerating their economic mobility through education
and early career program supports. We uniquely select, train, and mentor academically ambitious
Hispanic students in under-resourced communities and work to address and eliminate barriers
that stall high school and college academic and employment opportunities.
The Próx Gen program supports students over the course of seven years, from Junior year in high
school through college and early career during critical transitions in a Hispanic student’s life.
We are looking for a highly organized, responsible, self motivated, and dedicated individual who
is able to engage audiences in a classroom setting and execute small auxiliary projects with little
direction. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively, based
on the nature of the project.
The Project Consultant supports Anita Martínez, Executive Director of the Michigan Hispanic
Collaborative, who is an architect of the aforementioned program.

this role. One candidate will be selected for this opportunity. Based on job performance and
grant resources, MiHC will evaluate a possible full time position. If selected and extended an
offer, the candidates must be available to complete the mandated drug screening and background
checks by ​April 1, 2020​. The candidate must be available no later than ​April 20, 2020​ for
training.

Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Collaborate with MiHC staff to ensure the seamless service delivery of Próx Gen
workshops and inform enhancements.

● Communicate with students and school stakeholders to promote MiHC To and Through
Próx Gen work.
● Ensure the registration of qualifying high school juniors into the relevant MiHC scholars
and summer program opportunities.

● Answers questions, resolves problems, and makes recommendations referring complex


matters to the Executive Director as appropriate.

● Monitor workshop student attendance to track progress towards ensuring ongoing


participation.

● Prepare scheduled and ad hoc reports in a timely manner and assist with the framing of
proposals to meet funder requirements and guidelines.

● Participate routinely in strategic and operational meetings to discuss, coordinate, and


provide shared coverage.

● Assist in all areas necessary to ensure that our positive high school and volunteer
partnership relationships are maintained, connected with college access supports and
learning opportunities.
● Create and manage work plans for projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Skills & Qualifications


● A bachelor’s degree in business, liberal arts, community development, education, or a
related field.
● Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
● Flexibility and poise in dealing with a diverse set of individuals and organizations.
● Demonstrated proficiency utilizing database management systems as well as MS Office
products (e.g., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and the Google suite of applications
(calendaring, presentation, communication and reporting tools).
● Capacity to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while still meeting
priorities set by his/her superiors.
● Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

● Demonstrated experience working with low to moderate income families preferred.


● Ability to work independently and with a team, depending on the project.
● Flexibility with regards to new projects.
● Grant-writing experience preferred but not required
● Fluent Spanish speaker and writer preferred
● Teacher certification preferred but not required
Location
Southwest Detroit Community High Schools and TBD Community Based Organization.
Notes
The successful candidate will be classified as a contract employee. Contract employees work
full-time (40 hours a week). Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
The successful candidate will serve for 7 weeks and up to 40 hours per week with renewable
terms up to one year or more predicated on job performance and grant funding.

We are seeking an emerging leader to work on an exceptional project that impacts the nation's
fastest growing minority group. As a fellow for the Michigan Hispanic Collaborative’s (MiHC)
program, La Próxima Generacíon (Próx Gen), projects will be centered on the support and
advancement of MiHC’s commitment to improve the Hispanic student, college, and career
pipeline.
Our vision is to break the cycle of Hispanic poverty by accelerating their economic mobility
through education and early career program supports. We uniquely select, train, and mentor
academically ambitious Hispanic students in under-resourced communities and work to address
and eliminate barriers that stall high school and college academic and employment opportunities.

Collaborative, who is an architect of the aforementioned program.

Responsibilities

Gen college cohort supports and inform enhancements. Monthly travel and/or virtual
engagement will be required to ensure seamless coordination with college campus
cohorts and stakeholders.

● Coordinate and perform college Padrino / Madrina trainings and check ins.

● Assist with the coordination and implementation of the parent peer communities of
support we call “Cafecitos” 一 primary emphasis on the parents of college scholars.

● Co-manage the content and distribution of the MiHC website, social media platforms,
and newsletters.

● Collect and synthesize college scholar success stories.

● Prepare research summaries and ad hoc reports to assist with the framing of grant
proposals, concept papers, and educational landscape assessments.

● Collaborate with MiHC staff to share research findings and identify opportunities to
improve upon the service delivery of Próx Gen workshops, MiHC scholar support
enhancements, community and employer partnerships, and other focus areas as assigned.

● Analyze Próx Gen electronic and paper records, and databases to ensure annual key
performance goals are achieved.

● Event coordination assistance with: May College Decision Day, Annual Latinx Sendoff,
Fall College and Career Fair, Principal and Guidance Counselor Symposium(s), Summer
Scholar Social event, and On-site admissions fair.
● Collaborate with MiHC staff to accelerate volunteer engagement efforts. Ensure the
integrity of our volunteer records, trainings, and scheduling.

● Create and manage work plans for projects as assigned.

● Answers questions, resolves problems, and makes recommendations referring complex


matters to the Executive Director as appropriate.

year renewable term, as an alumni fellow. This opportunity will be predicated on job
