PERSONAL STATEMENT

Information Technology is of great importance to all aspects of oil and gas operations,
from upstream, midstream to downstream operations. It helps to;

- protect the entire process chain of the oil and gas industry from advanced cyber
threats

- provide visibility, security and control across all platforms in the industry.

- access and draw rich insights from large data sets thereby making the oil and gas
industry more profitable and efficient.

- improve the efficiency and viability of oil and gas processes.

- capture large data in real time for effective production, distribution and other
processes which in turn reduces cost.

- aid technological processes in refineries to increase the yield of products with

minimization of harmful emissions.

- provide possibilities for expanding crude oil reserves with IT technologies,

improving the rate of crude oil extraction from existing wells, and providing
further means to discover new wells.

- generate, collect and manipulate data concerning oil wells, pumps, pipelines, rigs
and other components accurately.

- manage and reduce risk of fluctuating oil prices, thereby increasing the overall
revenue of the industry and hence the nation.

- build a smart collaborative environment and aids management decision making.

- ensure effective performance of machines by fitting sensors that collect data about
its performance.
- to optimize the subsurface mapping of the best drilling locations, in other to ensure
high accuracy in drilling methods and oil exploration.

The benefits and importance of IT in the oil and gas industry cannot be over-emphasized.
I hope to gain vast knowledge in this particular area and other relating areas as
technology becomes increasingly sophisticated in order to be able to offer my services to
rapidly growing associated industries with increased workforce needs.

I have chosen to study in the UK because UK universities and colleges offer thousands of
excellent related courses, leading to qualifications that are respected by employers and
academics worldwide because of their applauding educational schemes, environment,
hospitality and tutors.

I am particularly keen to study here because of my research interest in information

security, database management and your reputation of excellence in these fields. Your
universities also provide excellent working and recreation facilities for graduate students
which demonstrates your commitment to the graduate student body. The international
reputation of the departments attracts such a variety of students and I believe it will be a
stimulating environment in which to study at Masters level.
