ABSTRACT
THE PURPOSE OF THIS INVESTIGATORY
PROJECT IS TO PROVE THAT HERBAL PLANTS
CAN CURE SKIN DISORDERS LIKE ACNE THIS IS
IRRITATING AND CAN LOW OUR CONFIDENCE
WHO ARE GOING TO THE STAGE OF PUBERTY
LIKE ME THAT’S WHY I SEARCH ON THE
INTERNET ABOUT HERBAL PLANTS THAT CAN
TREAT SKIN DISORDER AND I FOUND ONE
GUAVA. GUAVA HAS MANY CONSTITUENTS AND
HIGH CONTENTS WHICH ARE CHARACTERIZED
BY THEIR ANTIOXIDANT FUNCTIONS THESE
NUTRIENTS CAN TREAT ACNE THAT IS
IRRITATING AND BOOST OUR CONFIDENCE
DOWN WHOSE GOING TO THE STAGE OF
PUBERTY LIKE ME AND 30+ WHO IS STILL
HAVING THIS TYPE OF SKIN DISORDER. THIS
INVESTIGATORY PROJECT THAT WE CAN USE
THE EXTRACT OF GUAVA TO TREAT ACNE.
CHAPTER I: BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY AND INTRODUCTION

GUAVA PLANTS IN THE MYRTLE FAMILY WHICH CONTAIN

ABOUT 100 SPECIES OF TROPICAL SHRUB, NOWADAYS PEOPLE
ARE FOCUSING IN HERBAL PLANTS ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO
ARE COMMON IN THE ENVIRONMENT. ONE OF THE EXAMPLE
IS THE GUAVA PLANTS(PSIDIUM GUAJAVA LINN). BASED ON
RESEARCH, THIS PLANT IS GOOD FOR HEALING AND
TREATING WOUNDS AND OTHER SKIN INFECTIONS.

SO I MY RESEARCH, I WANT TO TAKE A BATHING SOAP OUT

OF IT CAUSE I KNOW THAT IT IS EFFECTIVE.

PEOPLE, RESEARCHERS, SCIENTISTS WERE FOCUSING TO

MEDICAL PLANTS. THEY WANT TO PROVE THAT THERE ARE
PLANTS THAT ARE MORE EFFECTIVE AGAINST DISEASES
ESPECIALLY IN SKIN. THIS STUDY REFERS TO A PLANT THAT
CAN BE MADE INTO A BATHING SOAP AND IMPROVE IT’S
QUALITY WHILE USING THIS PLANT(GUAVA LEAVES). I WANT
PEOPLE TO HANDLE EASILY IN TREATING THERE SKIN
DISORDER. INSTEAD OF BOILING THE LEAF, NOW IT’S EASY TO
APPLY. BOILING MAKES TOO MUCH.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

I STATED THAT GUAVA LEAVES EXTRACT IS GOOD FOR SKIN
BASED ON MY RESEARCH IT MAY CONSTINTUENT THAT ARE
GOOD FOR SKIN.IT ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:

IS THERE ANY CONSTINTUENT OF GUAVA LEAF THAT IS GOOD

FOR SKIN? WHAT ARE THOSE?

IT CAN REALLY TREAT SKIN DISORDER/ACNE?

HYPOTHESIS

CAN GUAVA LEAVES CAN TREAT/CURE ACNE USING IT’S

EXTRACT AND MAKING A SOAP THAT CAN BE USED ON FACE
FOR TREATING ACNE.
YES, THE EXTRACT OF THE GUAVA LEAF CAN BE USED IN
MAKING SOAP AND CAN BE USED ON TREATING ACNE MY
ACNE HAS LESSEN FOR I APPLIED IT ON MY FACE FOR A
WEEK.

Significance of the Study

This study would help people especially teenagers resolve their problems
whichdeals with their facial features. This study also aims to find an
alternative material in removing dark spots and other facial delinquents
safely and in a less expensive way. You can make a bathing soap with
guava leaves extract as treatment for acne. This plant is very common to
our environment, and aside of its availability, it is easy to cultivate. It
contains many components for healing skin disorders.

Delimitation/Limitation of the
project

The study of guava leaves and their extract is very useful. It has the ability to
treat, cure, disinfect skin problems and is a capable plant for acne.
Delimitation
Guava Soap has the capability to remove skin disorders like acne in and also
toprotect our skin against it.
Limitation
The effect of the Guava Soap will last for 25 hours and will protect
our body against bacteria such as germs and other common bacteria.

CHAPTER II: Review of Related

Literature

Guava

Called Guayaba in Spanish-speaking countries and Goiaba in Brazil, guava is a common

shade tree or shrub in door-yard gardens in the tropics. It provides shade while the guava
fruits are eaten fresh and made into drinks, ice cream, and preserves. In the richness of
the Amazon, guava fruits often grow well beyond the size of tennis balls on well-branched
trees or shrubs reaching up to 20 meters high. Cultivated varieties average about 10 meters
in height and produce lemon-sized fruits. The tree is easily identified by its distinctive thin,
smooth, copper-colored bark that flakes off, showing a greenish layer beneath. It can also
kill germs.
Guava, is a genus of about 100 species of tropical shrubs and small trees in the myrtle f
amily Myrtaceae. It is native in Mexico , as well Central America, Northern America and
parts of the Carribeanbut not cultivated throughout the tropics. In Tagalog , name bayabas
are probably local renditions of guayaba. Numerous references inmedical research identify
guava as Psidium Guajava.
Psidium guajava are cultivated in many tropical and subtropical countries for their edible
fruit. Psidium Guajava are often considered superfruits , being rich in vit. A and C and
other properties. Its leaves contained antioxidant pigments ,carotenoids and Polyphenols that
are good components in turning our skin healthy.
Since the 1950's , guava , particularly its leaves , has been a subject for diverse research in
chemical identity of its constituents, pharmacological properties and history in folk medicine .
For example , from preliminary medicinal research in laboratory models , extract from guava
leaves are implicated in therapeutic mechanisms against cancer , bacterial infections ,
inflammation and pain and skin disorder. Essential oils from guava leaves have shown
strong anti-cancer in vitro.
In folk medicine , guava leaves are used as a remedy for diarrhea, and for their supposed
antimicrobial properties. Its easy to get the components of guava leaves when it is apply in
a form of a soap.

Methodology

A. Guava Decoction
We have to gather 50g of fresh green guava leaves, 250 mL of water and boil it
for about 10 mins.

* Materials
one-half cup of oil, 3tbsp. caustic soda, 500mL of water and guava leaves
extract

B. Preparation of Soap
From the materials gatherd , set aside guava leaves extract. Mix 500mL water
and vegetable oil and stir for 30mins. Combine the guava leaves extract to the
solution of water and oil, stir for 30mins. add 3 tbsp. caustic soda stir for
another 30 mins. Put in a molder and place in a safe area that can't be expose
by the sun.

C. Soap Cutting:
Cut the soap acc. to the size of the molder.

D. Testing the soap:

After 15 days the soap will be use either preventive or cure. The respondents
to this is the people who have skin wounds. It will be apply in the skin when
they take a bath.

PROCEDURE

Prepare the stove to be used. Boil it for 10

minutes(LOW HEAT); Separate the skin from the
extract. Put it in a clean container, let it cool and then
set aside. Prepare the
SODIUM HYDROXIDE(NaOH) or Lye. Put in a
container.(NOTE: READ FIRST THE DIRECTIONS IN
USING A LYE. FOR EXAMPLE: DON’T PUT THE NaOH
ON ALUMINUM CONTAINERS)
You must use rubber gloves and masks in dealing with
lye and with other chemical substances. Don’t play with
them and keep out of reach of children. Put some oil (3
tbsp.). Mix it thoroughly. Put the extract of the fruits to
the mixture. (1/2 tbsp.). Stir the mixture continuously in
a single direction. (NOTE: MAKE SURE THE MIXTURE IS
VISCOUS)

Let it dry for about 2 days or more.

RESULTS,DISCUSSION,
CONCLUSION,AND
RECOMMENDATION
The researchers found out that the 4 seasons fruits can help minimize pimples and pores. It
can also help clear skin impurities because of the anti-oxidants that the soap contains. This
research gave us a hard time because there are a lot of instances that the measurements of
the ingredients would not compliment the desired results. There can also be a downside in
this experiment because the soap is not intended to be used in scars because it might
irritate it and it stings.

The researchers therefore conclude that the guava extract soap can reduce pimples and
other skin impurities. This is shown by the experiment that we conducted by putting
various kinds of ingredients in different amounts and sizes. The experiment was successful
because the researchers came up with their desired result even after several tries.
