PERSONAL COMPUTER (PC) BUILDING SIMULATION

USING AUGMENTED REALITY

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Owning a personal computer in the present time is a bit of the norm considering the capabilities
of one and the myriad of advantages a person can benefit from owning a personal computer. A
desktop is a kind of a personal computer and flexible with the parts. The parts of a desktop
computer can be easily changed when upgrades or replacement are desired. There are pre-built
desktop computer however building a customized desktop computer is becoming a trend
nowadays especially desktop computers geared towards gaming and it being a cost-effective
option. Building a customized desktop computer can intimidate an inexperienced person,
especially beginners, when the risk of parts being destroyed due to wrong placement of parts
and/or harming oneself. A mobile application was made to simulate the desktop building
process, teaching the person the correct way of building a desktop computer before that person
build a real desktop computer. The program will be able to help in determining the compatibility
of the desired parts being used in the desired build as well as introducing practicality in terms of
not buying the parts to maximize efficiency overall. Augmented Reality is used to provide a
more realistic approach of building a desktop computer and break the stigma that though it is a
perfect fit for games, it can also be used to educate other people especially through simulations.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Making a customized desktop PC is more convenient than buying a pre-built desktop

computer for various reasons. The thought of building a desktop computer and the possibility of
breaking the components intimidates a lot of customers from trying to build one. Buying costly
incompatible pc components is also an often mistake of customers.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The program aims to:

1. Provide a user-friendly program that will help first time PC builders know the proper
way of building a PC.
2. Lessen the tension of building a PC for the first time by giving customers confidence.
3. Give customers a realistic experience in building a PC.
4. Assist customers choose the correct compatible and efficient PC components.
5. Plan the layout of the parts as well as its cable management ahead of time.
6. Guide students of Computer Engineering and related courses to better understand PC
building.
7. Satisfy some people who find building computers as their hobby.
8. Utilize the programming language Unity to enhance the knowledge of the
programmers.

IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

The creation of the PC Building Simulator software is important because of its

practicality and user-friendliness. The PC buyer and/or builder can check various parts as to how
they complement each other. With this, the user will not buy the parts first in order to fully grasp
the experience of PC building and troubleshooting, but they will also learn the parts themselves
and its description and function.

DELIMITATIONS

The program is consisted of limited parts only, not all the available alternatives on the
components are present in the software because of the time constraint. This is considered as the
first version; the developers and researchers might release an update after the time constraint and
add several features that will further help the user in creating a cost-effective PC. Cable
management is also not tackled in the study.
