Lesson 1 - Matter Characteristics
I. OBJECTIVES:
B. Integration
d. GAD : Equal opportunities for both female and male to do various tasks.
Lessons are presented to target different senses/learning styles
of students: incorporating both written and oral reports and
hands on activity
.
e. Contextualization : Using examples that the students can see everyday
IV.PROCEDURE:
Preparation
Ask one of the students to lead the prayer then check attendance.
Motivation
Show a video about Matter. “What is matter?”
Ask students for examples of matter in the world around them. Encourage them to think of
both large and small examples, visible and invisible, such as sand and building.
(Integration of English) Help students who don’t know the English translation for their
example that they are not familiar in English.
How did you know that these examples are matter?
Lesson Proper
A. Activity
The students will do Activity 1 : Which is matter which is not? (in Learner’s Module) by group.
B. Analysis
Let the students report the answers on the activity they’ve done.
Ask the students the following questions during discussion.
What is matter? How did you know it was matter? What characteristics did you observe? Why
are the other sample not matter?
The teacher will then discuss the different properties of matter.
C. Abstraction
Matter can have different properties. Mass can be measured using a balance or a weighing scale.
The mass of an object is a measure of the amount of matter the object has. Matter occupies space.
The measure of the space occupied by an object is called volume. All matter have mass and volume.
There are other properties of matter such as hardness, texture, color, flexibility, malleability, and
electrical conductivity which vary from one sample to another.
D. Application
Matter is all around us. We are made of matter. We use matter in our daily life. We can observe
changes in matter in our daily lives, from cooking to eating. We use water in its liquid form to
boil and its gas form to steam. What other types of matter can you observe everyday?
