Aims: to improve recognition of the first and second conditional forms
to use the structures in conditional statements,
to review the structures
Evaluation: initial through warm up
continuous through activities, observation, error correction
final through both oral and written feedback

Warm up 5' T. asks students to imagine the T-Ss


following situation: “You arrive
home late at night and you find Ss- T
your apartment door open. What do
you do? “. The teacher refreshes
students’ awareness of the
conditional.
Reading 20' T. asks students to read prepared Individual handouts
extracts using conditionals. work
(handout 1) T. asks students to
underline all conditional structures. Pair work
Then, Ss get into pairs and confront
their answers with a partner. Then Group work
Ss read the statements aloud. T.
checks with the whole class.
Students get into groups and
complete a fill-in activity based on
the previous reading (handout 2).
They correct worksheets in small
groups. The teacher moves about
the room helping students with their
corrections. Then, they go over
corrections as a class. T. answers
any questions they may have on
first and second conditional
structure at this point.

Writing 15' Teacher asks students to get into Group work Board
groups of 4 and has students
prepare two “What if…” situations Open class notebooks
on a separate piece of paper.
Teacher asks students to employ
first and second conditionals. Next,
students exchange their prepared
situations with another group.
Students in each group discuss the
"what if..." situations. T. moves
about the class and helps students -
especially concentrating on the
correct production of the first and
second conditional forms. When
they have finished, one student in
each group presents the situation to
the class.
Feed back 10' Teacher invites students to make Open class handouts
statements about themselves.
Teacher gives each student handout Individual
3. Teacher gives students cards work
which contain half of conditional
clauses. One student has to read
his /her sentence and other has to
identify the other part od the
sentence and match it with the one
he heard.
