ABSTRACT

A safety jacket is a personal protective equipment designed for high visibility

and reflectivity for employer’s safety in site. The advantage of this safety jacket are
velcro and zipper, tool holders and mini GPS tracker. The overall cost of this product is
RM171.87. The main problem widely found on a safety jacket are small tools are
difficult to carry. If an injury occured, the time taken on unequipping the jacket is
undesirable. The typical safety jacket is not capable to find lost worker if the building
collapses. The reason of our project was designed to help construction workers achieve
greater protection from an unexpected accident. This product was tested by using
questionnaires from 30 respondents in Sarahill Consulting Sdn Bhd, Nationlink Group
of Companies and Lim Aik Chai Electrical Sdn Bhd where the highest are Engineer
(37%) and the least are Sub Contractor (7%) and Project Manager (7%). Based on the
result, most of respondents are satisfied with the usage of this product on Section B, C,
and D. This product will probably give employers and employees a superiority when
wearing safety jacket.

III

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND STUDY

Since the contractor consistently disregard about employee safety at site particularly
the employee is not wearing the safety jacket or safety vest as a result of it is costly
and not appropriate to wear in view of climate in Malaysia. Yet, the safety jacket or
safety vest is must to utilize current working time. It is additionally for employee
goodness. A safety jacket is used to avoid accidents which might harm the
individual’s life but they are still used to help identify the type of worker. Some of the
most hazardous types of positions are involved in the construction field and law
requires such employees to wear protective clothing and safety devices.

These days, Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket (TMSJ) has a unique design

as a safety jacket. Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket (TMSJ) might be help the employee
to work with uncomplicated and prevent endanger individual life such as the
employee missing when collapsed building and also, the employee went missing when
suddenly fainted at construction field. This jacket has been design based on original

1
safety jacket. On opening part of this jacket, we using a velcro and zipper which is
painless and comfortable. The user can use both or velcro only or zipper only. There
has two chouce which is might help the user uncomplicated to wear than using the
jacket button because some user are struggling wear a jacket button.

In addition, there have a tool holder that is for user to put some small
tools or equipment such as chisel, hammer, rasps and another equipment on lower part
of this jacket. The purpose of this tool holder is to perform more assertive and precise
work steps because it takes some time to retrieve the tools over long distances and
may cause the tools might damaged while doing work in it is original location. Other
than that, the left and right of part on the sleeves of this jacket has a pocket which is to
put Mini GPS Tracker. According to Wikipedia, a GPS tracking unit is a navigation
device normally carried by a mobbing vehicle or person or animal that uses the Global
Positioning System (GPS) to track the device movements and determine it is location.

Last but not least, high-visibility protective jacket is often the first and
the only thing that keeps an employee visible under working conditions with less than
precondition lighting. Safety jackets are the first line of defense for employee against
certain inherent risks, assisting them to perform their duties faithfully and safely. This
will significantly reduce injuries and better ensure workplace safety.

2
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

The first problems that usually happened to workers at field is hard to find
lost employee once there has a collapse of the building. This can improve whether the
effectiveness of Mini GPS Tracker on this jacket. We also know whether the tool
holder is advantage enough to carry small tools and another item to the other areas. It
is uncomplicated to bring the tools separately. Other than that, the employee will take
a long to open the jacket if the fire has happened on employee body or an unexpected
accident. This can describe the design of this safety jacket whether easy to use or
complicated.

1.3 OBJECTIVES

We have three main objectives for this project:

1. To verify whether the work-ability of this jacket is wearable.

3
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

Firstly, we can gain more safety to all workers in case they face up with
unexpected accident. Other than that, we also can improve their durability with the
presence advance enhancement. Moreover, we can reducing time to search for victims
of collapse building and reduce time upon equipping their clothes to go to work.

1.5 SCOPE OF STUDY

We have three main scope of study for this project is a Trackable Multi-Socket
Jacket that have a tool holder that is can bring small tool or equipment to site current
working time. Therefore, this jacket have a velcro and zipper that is used as the prime
fastening system where the velcro and zipper that keeps the jacket closed or undress
the jacket. Beside that, Mini GPS Tracker in safety jacket used to locate workers at
site.

Literature Review

2.0 Introduction

Individual Protective Equipment (PPE) is essentially defensive apparel, head

protectors, goggles or other hardware intended to shield the wearers from perils. PPE
could be utilized for work purposes and sometimes sports as well. The reason for PPE
is to lessen worker introduction to perils when building controls and authoritative
controls are not basically to decrease these dangers to an extensive level.

2.1 History of Safety Clothing

Wellbeing apparel (overalls) was utilized for quite a while, however, the
specific course of events is misty, it was referenced in writing as right on time as the
mid-eighteenth century and was usually worn by slaves in the railroad organization
back in the United States

5
2.1.1 How It Came to Be

As we probably are aware, denim is one of the most famous easygoing wear
textures around the world. Denim is a solid cotton ward-confronted material in which
the 'weft' goes under at least two twist strings. This sort of weave creates an askew
ribbing that recognizes it from cotton duck. While denim's ancestor known as
dungaree has been created in India for many years, denim itself was first presented in
the city of Nîmes.

2.1.2 Denim Creation

All denim experiences commonly a similar procedure in creation.

1. Cotton is collected by hand or machine.

2. A cotton gin isolates the cotton fiber from the seeds.

3. The fiber is placed into parcels. A parcel weighs around 550 pounds and can make around 400
of pants.

4. The cotton fiber is then spun into yarn.

5. The yarn is colored giving it shading, for example, the exemplary denim blue.

6. The yarn is then woven in a bus loom or shot loom into denim.

7. The denim is then sent to the maker for use.

6
2.1.3 Coveralls

Figure 2.1.3 (a) Redwing Coverall

In our venture, we will utilize a reused coverall and alter it to be a wellbeing

coat (long sleeve). The coverall that we picked was from SHELL BHD. This coverall
is a Red Wing Flame Pro 220G Lightweight Flame Retardant Coveralls that is usually
utilized on oil rigs. This coverall has an exemplary look and an incredible fit. It
highlights eight pockets and another practically unbreakable YKK Spiral Zips all
through. It includes twofold sewed creases and emphasizes focuses are bars attached
for quality. 50m wide STOR-NOR LOXY intelligent FR stripping included for better
permeability and security. Intelligent stripping applied to shoulders is equivalent long
on the front and back. From the data that was discovered, this coverall appears to be
reasonable for our undertaking.

Since a coverall is a full-body suit, right now needed to alter it and utilize the
remaining texture from the base half to include an instrument attachment for hand
apparatuses. Additionally, it is well outfitted with instant pockets in specific regions,
so we could spare some cost so as to create this task.

7
2.2 Safety Clothing in Heavy Working Environment

Bib-and-brace overalls (AE), overalls (AE), or Dungarees (BE) is a sort of

article of clothing that is ordinarily utilized as a defensive dress when working. These
things of apparel are likewise typically alluded to as a 'couple of overalls' by the
relationship of 'pair of pants'.

The principal organizations that mass-produce these articles of clothing are

Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis during the 1890s. From the earliest starting point, denim
overalls were famous laborers' articles of clothing because of their strength. Truth be
told, Levi, Strauss and Co's trademark in the 1880-1890s was "Never Rip, Never
Tear". Because of the way that numerous laborers who wore overalls were
development laborers, railroad laborers, vehicle manufacturers, production lines, and
so forth.

Exact estimation of physical movement is a pre-imperative to screen populace

physical activity levels and plan viable mediations. Worldwide Positioning System
(GPS) innovation offers the possibility to improve the estimation of physical
movement. This paper 1) audits the surviving writing on the utilization of GPS to
screen human development, with specific accentuation on free-living physical action,
2) talks about issues related to GPS use, and 3) give proposals to future research. By
and large, discoveries show that GPS is a helpful apparatus to enlarge our
comprehension of physical movement by giving the unique circumstance (area) of the
action and utilized together with Geographical Information Systems can give some
knowledge into how individuals interface with the earth. In any case, no investigations
have demonstrated that GPS alone is a solid and legitimate proportion of physical
movement.

Because of our venture that incorporates a GPS tracker, there was a check right
now. Wearable and entire body reception apparatuses have gotten a lot of intrigue as
of late because of the presentation of individual correspondence innovation. Interest
for new radio wire tech increments drastically. This undertaking would attempt to
make a model by utilizing this thought of savvy garments. This has been displayed in
Finland and the reenactment results are checked by and by which concurred quite well.

2.3.1 Current Trend in Trackable Clothing

Figure 2.3.1 (a) Tommy Hilfiger Sweater

(source :https://www.google.com/search?q=tommy+hilfiger+trackable+clothing&sxsrf=ALeKk0357cMr

hUkmeYKHR-CDWIQ_AUoAXoECAsQAw&biw=1600&bih=757#imgrc=FO3kKvMSR35FqM)

In present-day times, this is nothing unexpected that we need this identifiable

dress thought. Clearly, this was at that point made by none other than Tommy Hilfiger,
a style architect. In 2018, Tommy Hilfiger was endeavoring to capitalize on the time
of Instagram (socmed) influencers. Through this, he imagined garments that may
appear as though a typical sweatshirt, however, it's to a greater degree a suit that is
really following us. The attire and embellishments in Tommy Jeans Xplore line all
come furnished with installed Bluetooth keen chips. Those labels are associated with a
buddy iOS application that tracks when the client is wearing a thing and where.
In this project, we’re going to add the GPS tracker in our safety jacket, in order
to replicate this to know whether this is as viable as the ones that Tommy Hilfiger
developed.

10
2.4 Tool Holder

Figure 2.4(a) Tool Holder

A belt suspended apparatus holster for apparel ought to be made accessible and
not to be sold independently. This would facilitate laborers' work-capacity. As we
probably am aware, apparatus holster is principally belt-like, which could hold
instruments, for example, hammers, chalk lines, pencils, forceps and so on. On the off
chance that we can imitate this and apply this onto our task, this would be helpful to
our laborers.

The upsides of having an instrument holster are; it is truly faster to change

between apparatuses during work as opposed to bringing an overwhelming tool kit.
Much more fundamentally, it sets the device stature impeccably inevitably, so you
never need to chicken about with shims to get it to practice right, every apparatus
change. In this manner having a snappy change framework, not just spares time
purchase expands the nature of the work, you make impressively.

11
2.4.1 Tool Holster (Holder) for workers

Laborers, for example, development laborers, framework laborers, ironworkers,

and support laborers regularly convey devices with them so they can be immediately
gotten to. For instance, numerous such laborers wear instrument belts that have
holsters that are intended to hold devices when they are not utilized. Since the
instruments are upheld on the laborer's individual, the specialist need not come back
to a tool kit when a device is required on the worksite. In certain circumstances, an
instrument conveyed by the laborer may drop out of its holster. For example, if the
specialist is a framework laborer, an instrument may drop out of its holster as the
specialist moves about on the platform. In different circumstances, the specialist may
essentially drop the instrument subsequent to having expelled the apparatus from its
holster. In either case, it is awkward for the laborer to need to recover a dropped
instrument. In addition, a falling instrument can harm different laborers at the worksite.

12
2.4.2 Tool bags and Holders for Construction Workers

Earlier wellbeing bridles for mechanical laborers have not generally given
the security, consistency, adaptability of utilization or solace that might be wanted.
The different parts of the improved wellbeing tackles examined in this give upgrades
in at least one of these or different zones. The present frameworks and techniques and
others are coordinated to full body wellbeing tackles that consent to administrative
security measures, for example, ANSI and OSHA security guidelines for fall capture.
For instance, an integrated apparatus sack connection setup that contains a stretched
even component wherein he full-body bridle is arranged to serenely, securely and
dependably hold the overwhelming device pack that a development specialist, for
example, a craftsman or lineman may wear. A device sack designed to hold
apparatuses for a development laborer, the instrument pack including a pocket
measured and arranged for safely conveying development devices. Beneficially, the
instrument pack is verified, legitimately or in a roundabout way to the full-body
saddle itself and not only to a detached, discrete, less-tough apparatus belt or device
bridle made of materials insufficient for a wellbeing outfit.

13
2.4.3 Application Derivative

With regards to hand apparatuses and a wide range of consumables utilized on

a building site or carpentry work, an instrument holder can be an advantageous
method to haul around and have moment access to what you need, when you need it.
Also the outings you'll spare to the tool stash and the gaps you'll forestall in your jeans
pockets.

Some instrument holder is structured explicitly to convey a collection of hand

devices, for example, wrenches, forceps, and screwdrivers, in singular openings and
bulkier devices like rulers, measuring tapes, and laser estimating gadgets, in fortified
pockets. In any case, this being stated, there are openings for convenient instruments
in the worksite and we need brisk access. By applying this framework onto our
security coat, it will positively spare time from trips in the middle of changing devices
to the tool compartment and get a good deal on fixing openings in our wellbeing coats.
This thought was gotten from a device vest that has nearly indistinguishable thoughts
from our own.

14
3.0 High Visibility Clothing in Construction

Figure 3.0(a) Reflective Jacket

This paper has built up security the board framework for track laborers
that needn't bother with the free development of a remote framework, utilizing the
unstable spread of cell phones and their benefits in giving area data. The created
framework is intended to forestall mishaps of death and damage by telling track
laborers of data of train drawing closer with its administration of area data of trains
and track laborers. It is likewise intended to give data signs to follow laborers by
methods for different bits of wellbeing hardware including vibration, sounds, LED
and others. So as to forestall tangible issues in track laborers. Such bits of security
gear is introduced in wellbeing coats accommodated track laborers. The wellbeing
hardware assumes the job of telling track laborers of a train drawing closer by
epitomizing a basic correspondence module by methods for Bluetooth to permit it to b
occupied with remote correspondence with the inherent Bluetooth of cell phones.

15
3.1 Enhanced Visibility Safety Garment

Different sorts of individual defensive hardware (PPE) have been

accessible up until now. For instance, security vests for upgrading the perceivability of
the wearer by others have been accessible to this point for both customer and word
related use, for example, for use by joggers, bicyclists, and roadworkers. Such security
vests have would in general be brilliantly shaded and now and then have incorporated
some intelligent zones for additional perceivability upgrade. A need has therefore
emerged for another and exceptional upgraded perceivability security article of
clothing of improved development which upgrades perceivability from all review
points, is promptly movable to suit a wide scope of wearers, fits better, is increasingly
tough and is less helpless to catching. As per the innovation, there is given an
improved sort of close to home defensive hardware (PPE) as an upgraded
perceivability piece of clothing included essentially of woven engineered texture
fortified with polyester lashes masterminded and interconnected to encourage most
extreme perceivability from all review edges and simplicity of movability to fit
wearers of various sizes under different conditions.

16
4.0 Pocketed Jacket Construction

Figure 4.0(a) Pocketed Jacket Construction

The present innovation identifies with article of clothing developments

and especially to an outergarrnent, for example, coat, coat or the like furnished with
pockets of improved comfort and value. One part of the innovation is worried about
the particular pocket structure, and another with the relationship of the pocket
structure to the nearby segments of the article of clothing. The two angles are regarded
to be novel in regards hereinafter to be called attention to and asserted, and both add
to certain new methods of utilization as will be hereinafter clarified. A particular
object of the development and bit of leeway of the new course of action of parts is the
arrangement of a pocket in the front side are of a coat type article of clothing, or a
couple of such pockets evenly masterminded on inverse sides of the front center-line
of the piece of clothing, which will render the pocket substance more promptly
available than the best earlier workmanship developments of which I am mindful and
which will empower the wearer of the piece of clothing to arrive at the substance in a
split second and unfailingly by normal developments of the arms including no
clumsiness of distress.

17
5.0 Safety Practices in Construction Sites

"Abhorrence to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)", which are

classified under "Wellbeing gear", is frequently distinguished as the reason for poor
security rehearses. What's more, "Low degree of mindfulness toward utilizing PPE"
was likewise every now and again distinguished as a potential reason for poor
wellbeing rehearses. This was distinguished, conceivably, on the grounds that
incompetent laborers, who have less instructive levels, were seen as over introduced
among mishap exploited people. The inaccessibility of PPE additionally adds to poor
wellbeing rehearses. In an examination by Ahamadet al [22], it has been discovered
that hardhats are regularly utilized in building locales and wellbeing boots are
sporadically utilized. Nonetheless, Hi-Viz coats are once in a while utilized in
building destinations. Wellbeing gloves, earplugs, and security glasses are likewise
infrequently utilized in building locales.

18
5.1 Why Do Accidents Occur

There are some wellbeing and wellbeing factors that are interesting to
development and some which are not, Awareness of these components will help in
forestalling the event of occupationally related development occurrences.

1.Actual physical dangers, for example, a shaky divider that is being raised.

2.Environmental dangers, for example, poisonous climates, oxygen

insufficiency, commotion, radiation, and residue.

3.Human factors, for example, an administrator's or specialist's inability to

follow safe work rehearses.

4.Lack of or ineffectively structured wellbeing models, for example, a no

standard for limited space passage or a development standard or a concoction that is
never utilized in the development business.

19
5.1.1 Construction Deaths

The event of awful word related fatalities is one of a kind in that they give
promptly open data as to their motivation and counteraction. This is totally different
than word related ailments, which frequently have a long idleness period among
introduction and indications. There are numerous reasons why managing awful
passings has points of interest.

Deaths happen progressively with no inertness period, in this manner a

prompt arrangement of occasions exists.

 The occasions are normally promptly noticeable and the remaking of minutes
or hours as opposed to days, months or years is a bit of leeway.
 The underlying foundations of essential causes are all the more plainly
distinguished.
 It is simpler to identify circumstances and logical results connections.
 There is no trouble in diagnosing the result (passing).
 In most cases, awful passings are exceptionally preventable.

In 1990, OSHA examined a gathering of development passings from 1985-

1989 and found, most likely shockingly, that four reasons for passings won in the
development business. The data demonstrated that

 33% happened from falls

 22% happened from struck by
 18% happened from trapped/in the middle
 17% happened from electric shock

20
6.0 The Cost after Accidents/Incidents

All mishaps/occurrences influence the reality (benefit).

Mishaps/Incidents are those events that outcome in loss of generation, sickness or
damage, harm to gear or property and close to misses. Occurrences can't simply be
estimated essentially in laborers' pay costs. These harms the congruity of the Jobsite,
which causes lost time, lost wages, the separation of group or the departure of a key
individual, property misfortune as harm to machines and gear, and comes full circle in
the administrator's time lost during an occurrence examination or an OSHA
examination/investigation which brings about the expense of legitimate issues and
charges. Additionally, protection premiums, just as laborers' pay experience rates, will
be expanded. There is additionally the expense of harmed property, new methodology,
new gear, work issues and the temporary workers important time. As can be seen, the
expense of mishaps/occurrences isn't completely quantifiable, yet the image is clear.
These expenses can affect the proficiency and viability of a development activity,
however frequently could be evaded by giving wellbeing and wellbeing some
consideration and backing on development places of work.

7.0 OSHA Visibility Requirements

OSHA has explicit guidelines requiring flaggers and laborers on

unearthing locales where high-permeability garments and require different specialists
to wear the garments as a general wellbeing rule. The OSHA manual expresses that
for daytime work, flaggers must wear a vest, shirt or coat hued orange, yellow or solid
yellow-green. It tends to be fluorescent. For night work flaggers must wear a
"retroreflective" vest, shirt or coat that reflects back a high level of front light shafts.
The retroreflective material must be orange, yellow, white, silver or solid yellow-
green and furthermore can be fluorescent. The evening cautioning garments must be
obvious at 1000 feet least. The government laborer security "general obligation
provision" expresses that an entrepreneur must give "work and a position of a business
which are liberated from perceived risks that are causing or are probably going to
make passing or genuine physical damage representatives.

7.1 General Duties of Employers

Each engineer, principle contractual worker, temporary worker, and sub-

contract based worker will guarantee that all specialists are appropriately educated
regarding the dangers of their individual occupations and the safeguards fundamental
and satisfactorily direct to keep away from mishaps, wounds, and hazard to wellbeing
and specifically those youthful laborers, recently drew in laborers, uneducated and
outside specialists.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION

Methodology is the analysis of the principles of methods and

rules employed by a discipline, the systematic study of methods that are, can be, or
have been applied within a discipline or a particular set of procedures.

Methodology includes the general research strategy that outlines

the way in which research is to be undertaken and, among other things, identifies the
methods to be used in it. These methods, described in the methodology, define the
means or modes of data collection or, sometimes, how a specific result is to be
calculated. Methodology does not define specific methods, even though much
attention is given to the nature and kinds of processes to be followed in a particular
procedure or to attain an objective.

24
Methodology is also a list of steps of procedures that need to be followed.
Each step is important to ensure that the project can be done properly. Each step must
be followed one by one and done carefully.

Before the project is done, there are a few processes that need to
be done according to proper procedure to ensure that the project do not have any
problems. Among the measures done in preparing the project are:
i. Preparation of the design of the Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket
ii. Preparation of the GPS Tracker.
iii. Preparation of the questionnaire/survey.
iv. Preparation of the data collection and data analysis.

3.4.2 RESEARCH AND CHOOSE SITE AREA
The questionnaire/survey will be given in three several places at Kuching
Sarawak construction site and the Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket will be used by the
employee to test the effectiveness of the jacket. This method is important to obtain the
data from the employee to see the effectiveness of the Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket.

3.4.3 METHOD OF QUESTIONNAIRE

The questionnaire was prepared based on the design and the whether the safety
jacket was suited for work. From this, we are able to know the respondents’ comments
or their likes and dislikes about our jacket.

The questionnaire attached contains five section, and are as follows. Section A
(Demographic) in relations towards the background of the respondents. Section B
(Design of TMSJ) however is related to the usage of our added pockets, velcro, zipper,
to see if it provide comfort or ease. Section C (Workability of TMSJ), this section we
ask the opinion of respondents upon the usage of added sockets as tool holders.
Section D, we questioned the effectiveness of the GPS Tracker that comes with the
jacket, to see whether it is suitable or not to be brought to a construction site. Lastly,
Section E, this section’s question is related to the respondents’ overall satisfaction
about our jacket and also to ask for comments and suggestions upon improving in the
future.

The intention of this questionnaire was to analyze the problems of the common
safety jacket and what can be improved to be added to our TMSJ. The following
applies to each section of the questionnaire.

39
A) Section A (Demographic)

Section A is based on personal background information of respondents. The

demographic study is a population based study to see the factors such as age, gender
and their working position in the company. In this section, there are three questions,
one is of their position in the company, next is of age and the following is their gender.

B) Section B : The usage of Velcro and Zipper (Design)

Section B discusses general questions concerning the respondents’ view of the

added modification such as velcro and zipper. There are 10 question in this section.

C) Section C : The usage of Tool Holder (Workability of Jacket)

Section C is the respondents’ opinion based on question about the suitability of

this tool holder and pocket on our safety jacket. We provided 10 questions in this
section, in order to be able to research more in this area so that in the future people
can produce a better tool holder added to a safety jacket.

40
D) Section D : The usage of GPS Tracker (Effectiveness of GPS)

Section D’s questions are based on the GPS Tracker we added to our TMSJ.
We needed to know whether it is a good idea to be added or bad, based on the network
conditions. The GPS tracker needs a smartphone running on Android or iOS based OS
to be able to install the Application in order to function the GPS. In this section, we
provide 10 question upon.

E) Section E (Satisfaction and suggestions/comments)

Section E is where the respondents can give our their comments or suggestions
upon the Designing Standard that they’re familiar with and to critique our design as
well. In hopes of the future, there are people who wants to create such garments like
ours without having to research further.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

4.1 INTRODUCTIONTION

This chapter will explain about the results and discussion that
have been carried out after the project are done. The purpose of this analysis is to
answer all the problem statement that stated to achieve all objective of the project
overall.

The ‘Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket’ (TMSJ) is a protective outwear

that improves perceivability with bright hues such as yellow and reflective tape . Our
jacket is also equipped with a zipper and velcro instead of a typical button. We have
also improved the design of our TMSJ by increasing the size of the chest pockets
6×7inches and add a multi socket pocket at the front belly of the jacket 7×9inches.
This multi-socket has 5 sockets that will accommodate necessary tools such as a
screwdrivers, rulers, etc. The TMSJ also has extra pockets on both of its arms
(3.5×6inches) for the accommodation of the GPS and other tools/materials that fit.

4.3 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The findings were collected from the questionnaires distributed to 30 random

respondents, who are Sarahill Consulting Sdn Bhd, Nationlink Group of Companies
and Lim Aik Chai Electrical Sdn Bhd employees. Figure shows the data of the
respondents collected based on position from Section A. As the data shows, the
majority of the respondents were Engineers who holds 37% for answering the
questionnaires. The least of the respondents are of Sub-Contractors and Project
manager who holds only 7% of the data respectively. This was due to most of the
engineers are in the office calculating for the on-site engineers. For the draw in
percentage on this pie chart, this was due to not many workers are in qualified to
manage a project and not all contractors are interested in hiring sub-contractors.
Followed by the equal number of laborers and other laborers which are 13% and
lastly general laborers who are at 10% of the chart.

Figure 4.3.1 Shows the position of workers

47
The bar graph in Figure 4.6 shows the respondents’ results about the usage
of velcro and zipper on Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket. Most of the respondents are
satisfied with the overall design of the velcro and zipper based on the bar graph
below on Section B. The highest percentage by respondents is from question 2
which is agreed by the respondents, question 4, and question 10 which is 53.3%
because it is easy to use the velcro and zipper and are less complicated for
employees to wear the safety jacket while the highest of undecided percentage were
by respondents from question 8 and question 9 which is 33.33% because it is might
be uncomfortable using velcro only. So to conclude, most of them were not
interested in using buttoned jacket.

Figure 4.3.2 Shows the results from respondents about the usage of velcro and zipper

48
The bar graph in Figure 4.7 shows the respondent’s results about the usage of tool
holders on Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket. Most of respondents were satisfied upon the
workability of this jacket with tool holders based on the bar graph below on Section C. The
highest of ‘agreed’ percentage by respondents were from question 9 which is 66.7% because
the usage of tool holders is quite comfortable and straight forward, while the highest of
‘undecided’ percentage by respondents were from question 4 which is 23.3% because some
of them might be unsure that usage of tool holders reduce risks when bringing tools as per
our design.

Figure 4.3.3 Shows the results from respondents about the usage of tool
holders.

49
The bar graph in Figure 4.8 shows the respondent’s results about the
effectiveness of mini GPS tracker on Trackable Multi-Socket Jacket. Most of
respondents are satisfied about the effectiveness of mini GPS tracker based on the
bar graph below on Section D. The highest of ‘agreed’ percentage by respondents
from question 6 which is 63.3% because worker sometimes faint or feeling unwell
working under hot weather, and if the workers do faint and they might be hard to
track if no one was tasked to work with the person. So with our included GPS
tracker, finding the victim would be easy for employer. Whilst the highest of
‘undecided percentage’ by respondents from question 4 which is 36.7% because the
volume of the ‘alarm’ on the device not as clear or as loud.

Figure 4.3.4 Shows the results from respondents about the effectiveness of mini
GPS tracker.

50
Figure 4.3.5 Shows the results upon the respondent’s age.

Table 4.3 shows the data of the respondents collected based on age from
Section A. As the data shows, the majority of the respondents were 20 until 40
years which is 86.7% (26 respondents) while the respondents in 50 years and above
is 13.3% (4 respondents). The respondents in 20 until 40 years work more than the
respondents in 50 years and above.

Figure 4.3.6 Shows the results upon the respondent’s gender.

The table of gender shows the majority of the respondents is a man gender which is 80% that
have 24 respondents and the lowest of the respondents is a women gender which is 20% that
have 6 respondents. The table shows that man gender is more suitable in construction
activities.

CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, there will be an explanation a little in depth on the

conclusion and the recommendations regarding the improvements that can be made in this
project. This chapter will also explain the problems that we have faced during the entire
project.

5.2 CONCLUSION

Overall, we managed to achieve all of our objectives which was to create

a safety jacket with a more sophisticated design but easy to use, and also to know whether
the workability of the jacket was wearable on site. Last but not least, our third objective is,
we were to test the effectiveness of the Mini GPS Tracker. During the data collecting, we
noticed that the theory behind our design was highly acceptable but due to our technological
limitations our Mini GPS Tracker is lacking in terms of accuracy, distance and effectiveness.
This was due to the Mini GPS Tracker wasn’t as advance, as it was a cheap piece.

As to conclude our project, in Section B and C of our questionnaire, most of the

respondent are satisfied with the design based on the safety regulation that they’re familiar
with. We were also aware that there were some imperfections upon our project (TMSJ) such

52
as our GPS Tracker is lacking due to being a cheap product. By knowing this, we will try to
fix this issue in the future.

Moreover, there were no major issues regarding on our design and work-ability. The
improvement on the size of pockets and the addition of multi sockets for tools are greatly
accepted. According to the data taken, there are more pros than cons. Another one of our
difficulties during this project was getting a high amount of engineers and safety officers to
answer our questionnaire, although the majority that answered were engineers by 37%, but
to me personally, it wasn’t satisfactory as I wanted to have atleast 40-50% are safety officers
and engineers all together. But most of them are out of Kuching due to the Pan Borneo
Highway project and some housing projects outside of Kuching.

During the project, we were also able to learn a few important sets of skills such as
communication skills, time management skills, safety apparel designs and report writing
skills. Other than that, we have been able to learn how to work together as a team and was
able to successfully liaise with other lecturers especially our supervisor Mr Shahrulnizam bin
Bahari, and I am grateful to learn with his professionalism and his kindness. Also, we would
like to thank Chung Yee Tailoring & Sewing Institute, Miri for some professional
recommendations and critiques upon the design.

Lastly, hope that our research on this design can provide future reference for others
that are interested in designing their own safety jacket that has similar characteristics to ours.
From the comments we gathered from the questionnaires, we believe that in the future, our
design will be marketable.

53
5.3 RECOMMENDATIONS

We are aware that our research has not been so successful as we do have some flaws
to our design. Through this, we were given some suggestions upon improvement to our
design by the respondents such as follows :

1. The distance of the GPS Tracking are increased - In the future, there might
be a Mini GPS Tracker that is so advance and is able to track from miles away and is
highly accurate.
2. A more detailed GPS where it provides longitude and latitude of the user. -
An accurate GPS tracker will be able to trace the user/worker accurately and thus can
save lives if the situation is brought up.
3. The alarm of the GPS needs to be louder. - So when there’s a collapse on
the construction site, the GPS tracker’s alarm can be heard clearly and the time taken
to search for victims under the construction rubble is shortened.
4. Add ‘green & black’ reflector as it is easier to perceive at a construction
site.- This was recommended by a site supervisor at Matang Parade, Kuching. The
Geen and Black stripes is more visible during the day than a typical silver reflective
tape in his opinion.
