Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)
Doc. No.: 05-1_EPC-SV-AEI-I-SA-00002 D1 08.03.18 13 of 23
The hydraulic control system for the Xmas tree actuator valves should be
compatible with the 10K actuators offered by the major Xmas tree Vendors.
Xmas tree valves hydraulic control pressure require operating range:
- SV wells surface operating pressures 3,000 - 4,000psi.
- WHP-DN wells surface operating pressures 3,250 – 4,500psi.
Accelerated closing times (10-15 seconds) for actuation as “best practice” for a
gas-producing facility shall be considered into the design.
WHCP/HPU hydraulic pressure requirements can be typically divided into two i.e. HP (for
SCSSV) and LP (for KWV/PMV/PWV and other valves). Refer to section 3.6.2 for further
details.
3.3.1 General
The WHCP/HPU system logic shall be implemented in the SDS (part of ICSS, supplied by
others). The shutdown signal to WHCP/HPU shall be designed “FAIL SAFE”. SDS shall
initiate well shutdown upon loss of actuating hydraulic power or electrical supply.
Solenoid valves shall be energized during normal operating condition and de-energized
during shutdown condition.
SCSSV, KWV, PMV, and PWV actuators shall be operated via direct acting/pilot operated
solenoid valves. The control for start-up and shutdown sequence shall be performed by
the SDS logic.
KWV shall be controlled by PCS. It will be opened during pumping in bullhead diesel and
follow by methanol injection. KWV will be closed when hydrate inhibition is no longer
required.
The following start up, normal operation, and shutdown requirements shall be configured:
Upon opening a well, the PMV opens first to allow for equalization across the
SCSSV using the bullheading pump, then the SCSSV can be opened followed by
the PWV. This will be controlled by an adjustable timer configured in SDS logic,
with a range of 15 - 120 seconds.
Upon ESD or manual well shutdown, the PWV will close first followed by the PMV
with a time delay of 2 – 40 sec. (adjustable). Then the SCSSV will close with a
time delay of 2 - 40 sec. (adjustable). This will be controlled by a timer configured
in SDS logic.
Well closing
Pushbutton to Close SCSSV/PMV/PWV on each local Wellhead Control Module will send
the respective request to SDS, and subsequently the SDS shall close the respective
SCSSV/PMV/PWV.
PMV and PWV shall be provided with close PB on its faceplate so that operators can close
these valves from OWS at CCR.
When a well isolation valve is manually closed by operator, all other well isolation valves at
its downstream shall be closed according to well closing sequence mentioned below.
Pushbutton to shutdown total PMV/PWV on WHCP common section will send the request
to SDS for closing all PMV, PWV (surface shutdown).
Pushbutton to shutdown total SCSSV/PMV/PWV on WHCP common section will send the
request to SDS for closing all SCSSV, PMV, PWV (sub-surface shutdown).
Well closing sequence:
The logics to be programmed in SDS so that closing of well shall be started by PWV (at the
same time PCS shall close Kill Wing Valve 13-XV-C), and then followed by the PMV with a
time delay of 2 – 40 sec. (adjustable), then the SCSSV will close with a time delay of 2 - 40
sec. (adjustable). The timers are configured in SDS logic.
Upon an activation of wells closure, SDS shall trigger a signal to PCS via Process Control
and Safety Network to ramp close the Motor operated Choke Valve.
Well opening
Opening of wells will be performed manually via soft buttons on ICSS graphics by operators.
Refer to section 3.1 of process document 05-1_EPC-SV-AEI-P-RA-00005_ Control
Narrative for the details of well opening sequence.
Local Hardwired Reset pushbuttons on WHCP are provided as the permissive for opening
of SCSSV/PWV/PMV.
In case of total PMV/PWV shutdown and/or total SCSSV/PMV/PWV shutdown, Local reset
(at WHCP) of total PMV/PWV shutdown and/or total SCSSV/PMV/PWV respectively is
required before individual resets.
Note: Local reset is not required for the opening of PMV and/or PWV under following
conditions:
PMV and/or PWV is closing by the faceplate close PB, and
There is no SDS trip.
Interlock logics as follows shall be implemented in ICSS to prevent the mal-operation by
operators.
SCSSV, PMV and PWV shall be inhibited from opening if the relevant Choke Valve
is not in closed position.
PMV shall be inhibited from opening if the PWV is not in closed position.
In case of well opening from a sub-surface shutdown:
Opening of SCSSV shall be inhibited without opening of PMV
Opening of PWV shall be inhibited without opening of SCSSV
In case of well opening from a surface shutdown:
Opening of PWV and 13-XV-C (KWV) shall be inhibited without opening of PMV
