FESTIVAL CONDET 2018

Indonesia is famous for its Malay culture which is very typical,

especially in the province of DKI JAKARTA itself. And there are a lot of it,
more than hundreds of thousands of Malay cultures in Indonesia, which is
Betawi Malay culture. In almost 60% of DKI JAKARTA residents are Betawi
people. But amidst the harshness of the capital city of Betawi culture, this
includes sinking, especially in DKI Jakarta, because young people today are
affected by westernization and put aside the early cultural culture that was born
in DKI JAKARTA.

If we look at the Betawi culture itself, it is very interesting for us to

know more. All we can take is the martial arts, and this martial arts has been
minimal because many young people have been influenced by western culture
or too fanatic with k-pop, we should be proud of the culture that was born in
Jakarta, namely Betawi with martial arts. Pencak Silat won the most medals at
the ASIAN GAMES 2018 event. We just realized that only a few moments
were ASIAN GAMES 2018 and after that we must have forgotten about
Betawi culture and martial arts?

This is from the Betawi “beladiri“ culture, but there is something we

must know is a very large event for the Betawi community, named the 2018
FESTIVAL CONDET. This event has been held for 3 times, starting from
2015 to 2018 held on July 28-29 2018. The Condet Festival aims to preserve
Betawi cultural culture from the beginning of the history of Betawi to martial
arts as well as with Betawi dance. The Condet Festival was held by the
Chairman of the Condet Cultural Heritage Foundation, Mr. Iwan. This program
not only tells or explains about Betawi culture, but also this Condet festival
covers all aspects of Betawi culture, starting from musical instruments, dances,
and even Betawi specialties, egg crust. Many foreign tourists participated in
this event because there were so many in this event that consisted of hundreds
of booths containing betawi specialties, betawi special clothes and betawi
musical instruments.
 This condet festival can be seen as the most crowded event especially in
the area of East Jakarta because thousands of people come and cause a very
long traffic jam because other residents are curious to see and come to this
condet festival. But in this condet festival, not only displays the culture of
Betawi culture, but also the present cultural culture, the contemporary food
sold at this Condet festival, such as grilled sausages, takoyaki. This goal is
young people are not bored by just seeing the Betawi culture for 2 kilometers,
but the organizing committee also allows current food or drinks to be held at
the Condet festival.

Behind all the culinary performances and culinary delights, the

committee's struggle was huge in this regard, so it did not have a permit to
carry out the event from the police or the local government. Repeatedly, every
time the committee submits this event, it is always rejected and is like a
discourse. And finally the executive committee still carries out this event for
the sake of progress and preserves the culture of Betawi culture in particular.

But it seems that the organizing committee's effort to launch this event
has been successful and has done it as well as possible for the sake of
advancing cultural culture and introducing the culture of Betawi culture which
is now in the era of fall or arguably an ordinary culture. We should be able to
make use of this into a creative economy and be able to introduce Betawi
culture to the outside world not only in the 2018 Asian Games, but we must be
proud that we should be proud of the Betawi culture and be able to be a proud
achievement for our own country.
