At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:

1. Identify Indonesian Theater as part of literary tradition both written and
oral.
2. Understand the culture and story behind shadow puppetry.
3. Apply basic reasoning why music has a major function in theater.

1. Activity
Teacher will play a short puppet show to students.
2. Analysis

a. Describe your feelings while watching the show

b. How will you describe the relationship of the puppet to the man /ventriloquist?
c. Do you want to be like them?

3. Abstraction/ Lesson Proper

a. What type of theater does Indonesia is famous of?
b. Describe the play Wayang Kulit.
c. Kulit and Wayang stands for what?
d. Why do you think the audience is the most important person in Wayang Kulit
performance?
e. Using right hand side of holding the puppet stands for what? The left side?
f. Describe dalang
g. What is Gamelan?
h. What are the instruments used in Gamelan? Describe each.

4. Application

Watch and analyze the video clip about Wayang Kulit. Write your observations
and reactions regarding the elements of music listed.

IV. Closure

Music helps to guide the audience by suggesting mood or emotion or it offers the
authors or directors comment on the action of the play. Songs sung by the characters in
the play exist in all forms of theatre, even those outside the musical theatre.
