FOREWORD

REV. 0 11 sheets
September 1995

Modifications are not marked since this is a general revision conforming to the EEC
directives.

In particular, the specification has been graphically revised and the symbols have been
revised according to the 20198.COO.GEN.SDS spec. and included as informative
annexes at the end of the document.

Following the revision of this document, the symbols for the production of running
diagrams and layouts have been shared in this way :

- symbols for process and running diagrams, included the heating, ventilation, air
conditioning systems (HVAC) and hydraulic draining of white and/or black waters,
are contained in the 20250.DOC.MEC.SDS spec.;

- safety symbols used in the mechanical layouts and symbols for mechanical layouts
are contained in this specification;

- symbols for safety layouts are contained in the 20252.DOC.SAF.SDS spec.

This specification cancels and replaces the 06101.DOC.MEC.PRG.

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 Scope

The scope of this document is to define the requirements to be adopted in the

mechanical symbology to be used in the execution of mechanical layouts concerning
the equipment, valves,on line items and every other conventional symbol.

The symbols shall be used in the scaling drawings realization of the following kind:

- detail area drawings / composites (DD)

- general layout (DG) and drawing of dangerous areas classification (DH)
- derived from the previous one
- path drawings (DL)
- equipment positioning drawing (DP)

2. FUNCTIONAL NORMATIVE REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Operative Environment

In the execution of activities ruled by this specification no particular environmental

devices are required.

2.2 Functional Requirements

2.2.1 General prescriptions

The following symbols have been realized in the simplest form and with essential
graphic characters in order to make easy and general their use and interpretation .
The really available on CAD Computervision symbols are contained in the annexes of
this document, they try to cover the usual cases occurring in the project documents
drawing up; for items not considered in this specification it shall be necessary to
create new symbols, whose graphic and logic characteristics shall be inserted on
specific cards.

2.2.2 Symbols identification criteria

Each graphic symbol is identified by a code composed of two fields : the item code on
the left (two letters) and the progressive one on the right (two numbers).
In the Informative annexes the symbols are classified and nested according to their
item code , distinguishing with the progressive ones the items belonging to the same
item code.
The non identified items whose symbols have only the progressive and not the item
code can be considered an exception.
Next to each symbol can be found also the CAD code, alphanumeric indication of 7
characters given when preparing the symbol and ordering it in the CAD libraries; the
first character represents the subject for which the symbol is available, the two
following ones are similar to the item code, except for exceptional cases the forth and
the fifth are similar to the progressive and the two last ones define the kind of drawing
on which the symbol has to be positioned.

Sheet 7

2.2.3 Insert mode

The insert of mechanical symbols in the graphic project documents shall occur
according to the logic flow sequence by avoiding, if possible, the lines intersection; if
case of impossibility the rule of interrupting the vertical line is valid according to what
is prescript in the documentation concerning the execution of projects printed papers.

2.2.4 Execution methodologies

The symbols contained in this specification have been realized by CAD

Computervision system to support the computerized execution of engineering
documents (PID) and the data drawing from the data banks. (GPD).
For a correct use of CAD Library see the supporting documentation to the
personalizations realized by AGIP (instruction manuals, operative procedures,
technical software symbols specifications, etc.).

2.2.5 Scaling criteria

The mechanical symbols contained in this document are defined to less than a scale
factor indicated in the CAD libraries; they are however "dimensional" symbols, that is
symbols to be scaled to draw attention on the overall dimensions in the layout.
The non dimensional symbols are usually used in specific single layout, from which is
quite impossible to have derived layout. For the examination of dimentional symbols
please refer to other documents.
The items requiring to be scaled in the layout can be divided in:

- civil or structural;
- mechanical;
- electrical or intrumental.

2.2.6 Mechanical layouts

The mechanical symbols contained in this document are often used for all kind of lay
outs since the mechanical equipment positioning is always necessary as "base" for the
production of documents about other subjects.

Therefore it is better to use the mechanical symbols always with the same form and
the same criteria used by the mechanic engineer and this is valid also for the
realization of electric or instrumental layouts as well as for each document out from
our standard procedures.

The mechanical layouts which first use the symbols contained in this document are of
three different kinds:

a) General.

The general layout and the drawings directly derived from this one, shall contain
the big mechanical equipment whose symbols are contained in this document.
The secondary equipment, the valves and the on- line items usually are not
contained in the general layout.

b) Mechanical equipment positioning.

The symbols mentioned in this document are usually those used to realize
mechanical equipment positioning layouts.
The electric equipment positioning layouts and the panels rooms layouts often
include the interface mechanical equipment or those sharing the same spaces.

c) HVAC equipment and runs.

2.2.7 Symbols organization

The graphic symbols to be used in the mechanical layouts, and in those ones about
other subjects derived from the mechanical layouts, have been included in the
Annexes, following the here below listed groups :

Annex 1 : Different mechanical equipment and not on line filters

(Class C)

Annex 2 : Drilling and completion equipment. (Class D)

Annex 3 : Electrical equipment. (Class E)

The electrical equipment that can be positioned in the mechanical lay-outs, consist
mostly on panels, which due to their big dimension, can come to contact with the
mechanical equipment positioning.
The above mentioned panels are the typical subjects of the "electric and instrumental
panels positioning layouts."

Annex 4 : Furnaces, boilers and flares. (Class F)

Annex 5 : Specific equipment for sanitary fixtures, potabilization heating and

HVAC. (Class G)

Annex 6 : Heat transfer equipment .(Class H)

Annex 7 : Automation and instrumentation equipment .(Class J)

The instrument and automation equipment, positionable in the mechanical layouts,

consist excusively on panels, which due to their big dimension, can have contact with
mechanical equipment positioning.
The above mentioned panels are the typical subjects of the " electric and instrumental
panels positioning layouts".

Annex 8 : Non HVAC compressors, blowers and fans. (Class K)

Annex 9 : Line equipment. (Class L)

The on-line fittings are not usually the subjects of the mentioned, however there are
some fittings of such bug dimensions to be necessary positioning them next to the
mechanical equipment.

Annex 10 : Machinery (non electrical motors). (Class M)

Annex 11 : Pumps. (Class P)

Annex 12 : Communication equipment. (Class Q)

Annex 13 : Valves (symbol for valve body). (Class R)

Usually it is not foreseen the insert of valves on mechanical lay-outs, however the
relative symbols are usually included in the appendix when it is necessary to represent
them to draw attention on dimensional problems or positioning solutions as regards
adjacent equipment or importantt process details.

Annex 14 : Safety, escape and firefighting equipment. (Class S)
