This specification has been restructured from conceptual and graphical point of
view as “Company specification”, its general revision has been performed in
accordance with CEE rules which require functional requirements evidence and
discriminating elements deletion.

In particular:

- the specification does not take into account only one type of steel, but the
minimum mechanical properties has been fixed;

2 FUNCTIONAL NORMATIVE REQUIREMENT

2.1 Operative environment

Requirements to be considered do not exist.

2.2 Functional requirements

2.2.1 Materials requirements

Steel shall be ageing type resistant, it shall be killed with aluminium and should
have a fine grain structure. The residual total aluminium content shall be not less
than 0.02%.
Steel shall be worked with a process selected by Contractor; the procedure shall
be declared and approved by Company.
The materials shall be in accordance at least with the requirements specified by
UNI Code 663, relevant material Fe 35.2.
Alternative materials supposed as equivalent or better could be submitted to
Company approval; the proposal shall be justified with comments and anyway
shall satisfy the additional requirements of this specification.

Carbon equivalent shall be calculated using the following formula:

Mn V + Cr + Mo Ni + Cu
CE = C + + +
6 5 15

Where,

CE = ≤ 0.45

The maximum value of carbon equivalent detected by check analysis shall be

≤ 0.50.
For low temperature applications grade Fe 52.2, or equivalent, shall be selected.

2.2.1.1 Mechanical properties

The minimum Tensile strength shall be 410 N/mm 2.

The tests for mechanical properties check shall be carried out on samples - with
ISPESL stamp cut from each pipe or pipe segment which shall be used as shell
of the pressure vessel.

Steel grade Fe 52-2, which complies with the characteristics specified by UNI
code 663, shall also give a minimum yield strength (from proportionality to
0.20% at environmental temperature) equal to:

Rp 0.2 34 Kg/mm²

2.2.1.2 Supplementary requirements for low temperature applications

When heat treatment is requested after welding, the above minimum value shall
be noticed on the sample cut from a normalised pipe and afterwards submitted to
a stress relieving at 600°C.
Heating velocity and soaking time at stress relieving temperature shall be in
compliance with ISPESL Codes, collection "S", chapter S 8.

Charpy V Impact tests are requested in accordance with UNI Code 4714 at
temperature of -20°C, on the following samples cut from pipes along
transversal direction (in derogation to what specified by UNI Code 663 chapter
7.3):

- three samples cut in such a way that each sample will have a tangential
surface to the internal surface of the pipe;

- three sample at half thickness.

The notch on the samples shall be made orthogonal to the pipe surface. The
minimum average value requested for each three samples shall be 40 Joule (is
allowed a minimum value of 30 Joule for one sample).

In case of negative result the test shall be repeated on a double number of

samples. The mechanical tests and the relevant stamp of samples shall be carried
out in presence of Company Inspector who shall have free entrance into the place
where the tests will be performed.

2.2.1.3 Supplementary requirements in presence of H 2S

Material to be used with fluids containing H 2S which can cause SSC (“Sulphide
Stress Cracking”) and HIC (“Hydrogen Induced Cracking”), shall comply with
the additional requirements of specification 05589.MAT.COR.SPC.

2.2.1.4 Micrographic examination

The austenitic grain average dimensions, measured in accordance with UNI Code
3245, shall be not greater than that one of reticule n. 5 allowing not more than
20% of grain corresponding to a reticule n. 4.
Moreover a check of the microstructure, which shall be consistent with the
normalised conditions, is requested. These checks shall be carried out on
longitudinal sections close to the internal surface.

2.2.1.5 Heat treatment

Pipes shall be supplied after a proper normalisation heat treatment in accordance

with ISPESL Code collection ‘S’.

2.3 Ergonomics

Requirements to be considered do not exist.

2.4 Safety

Requirements to be considered do not exist.

2.5 Requirements for Quality Management and Quality Assurance

Possible requirements for Quality Management and Quality Assurance will be

included in the applicable management specification, attached to the offer.

2.6 Additional requirements for review

Testing and inspections which are requested and will be witnessed by

Company are specified in the Inspection Data Sheets (IDS)
(MOD.MEC.PRV.106).
Contractor shall submit for approval his inspection plan, including a
description of the available equipment.

The tests to be carried out are defined in the paragraph 2.2.1 of this specification.

The pieces shall be tested one by one by ISPESL which will issue the official
certificates.

2.6.1 Samples for testing

For each pipe a segment 200 mm long , with ISPESL stamp, shall be supplied
This pipe segments shall be used for possible test samples during fabrication.

2.6.2 Chemical Analysis

An heat and check analysis for each homogeneous lot coming from the same
heat are requested.

2.6.3 Non destructive examinations

The following checks shall be carried out witnessed by Company’s Inspector.

The Contractor shall submit each pipe to a full check with ultrasonic
examination. The checks for the detection of longitudinal defects and double
thickness shall be carried out in accordance with ASME Code Sect. V.
For the defects acceptance criteria ASME Code Sect. VIII Div. I, Appendix 12
shall be applied.
Obviously during this check, defects with dimensions greater than the
acceptable ones according the criteria specified in the Codes as above shall not
be evidenced; moreover all the surface defects found along welding edges, also if
with acceptable dimensions, shall be repaired properly before vessel fabrication.

2.6.4 Residual magnetism check

The residual magnetism shall be checked on 10% of pipes of the same lot and
heat, and shall be not more than 20 Gauss.
