FINAL RESULTING STUDENTS’ PROFILE FOR THE COURSE
By the end of the cycle the students will talk about experiences they had in the past. Furthermore, they will
be able to give some suggestions or recommendations to people. In addition, they will make more
structured sentences by linking them using relative clauses. Besides, they will be able to express actions at a
particular moment in the past.

OUTCOMES IN THE FOUR LANGUAGE SKILLS

LISTENING SKILL
Understands description of experiences from the past. The student comprehends simple suggestions about
different situations. Besides, the student understands when people describe actions at a particular moment
in the past.

SPEAKING SKILL
Describes some of his/her most remarkable experiences of life. The student also gives simple but clear
suggestions or recommendations in a specific situation. In addition, the student will be able to ask and
answer different questions about actions at a particular moment in the past.

WRITING SKILL
Describes experiences of life and actions at a particular time in the past. Besides, writes short paragraphs
giving his/her suggestions about a topic. Additionally, the student is able to write paragraphs linked by
relative clauses when it is necessary.

READING SKILL
The student understands implicit and explicit ideas expressed in true, false, open, close or multiple-choice
questions, within an easy text about experiences of life from the past, suggestions for people, and actions
at the past in a particular time.

AGREEMENTS
1. TIMELINESS AND ATTENDANCE
1.1 Class schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
1.2 One session per week. Ten sessions per cycle.
1.3 Class begins at 8:40 a.m. If a student arrives after 9:00 a.m. he/she receives an absence mark.
1.4 One absence is equivalent to one session. If the student’s number of absences is greater than or equal
to 20% of the total of sessions, the student fails the course.
1.5 Students have seventy-two hours to hand over a sick leave or job leave to excuse an absence.
2. CLASS ACTIVITIES AND ASSESSMENT
2.1 Dictionary usage is mandatory. Students can use a physical or an electronic dictionary.
2.2 Evaluation will be continuous.
2.3 Midterm Exams
2.3.1 Midterm exams will be carried out on weeks 4, 8 and 10.
2.3.2 The final exam is an oral exam.
2.4 Rosetta Stone:
2.4.1 Students must complete units 16, 17 and 18 in the Rosetta Stone Platform.
2.4.2 Rosetta Stone performance will be checked on week 6 (Unit 16) and week 9 (Units 17 and 18).

3. FEEDBACK, GRADE REVIEW REQUESTS AND SUPPLEMENTAL EXAMS


3.1 Activities feedback will be given within one week after the activity.
3.2 Students can request for a grade review within three days after getting their grades.
3.3 Supplemental exams will be agreed regarding students’ class performance.
4. ACADEMIC SUPPORT (TUTORING)
4.1 Students who show major weaknesses in any of the communicative skills will be referred to tutorials.
4.2 If a student fails any of the terms, he/she will be referred to tutorials.
4.3 Attendance to tutorials is mandatory.
5. CODE OF BEHAVIOR
5.1 Class should be developed in a climate of respect, order and cordiality among students and teacher. It is
considered disrespectful any kind of physical or verbal abuse in class. Therefore, students must avoid
any taunt or mockery towards their classmates or teachers.

5.2 The teacher agrees to begin and end the class on the agreed schedule.
5.3 Assignment due dates will be established in advance.
5.4 It is not allowed to bring food or beverages into the classroom, chewing gum in class, nor the use of cell
phones, MP3, electronic devices or items that do not correspond to the given material (makeup, cards,
etc.). Except for English Clubs or activities identified by teacher the use of those items should be
avoided.
5.5 Admission to class will not be authorized for students who arrive under the influence of alcohol or
hallucinogenic substances.
5.6 Faults such as a copying during an examination, plagiarism (intellectual seize property without reference
to the author), completing assignments on behalf of other peers, presentations duplication, among
others, implies a 0.0 grade on the assignment, and it could also affect any qualitative grade given by the
teacher and it might also lead into disciplinary actions by the institute.
5.7 Because classrooms are shared with students from other shifts, at the end of the class, every single
classroom must be left clean and tidy.
