RULES AND TIPS

● Attend class: 20% of missed classes will result in course failure: 1 hour = 1 absence. 1 class = 2
absences.
● Be punctual. You will be marked late after 15 minutes: 4 days late = 1 absence. More than 30
minutes late = 1 absence.
● Remember that all the sessions will be recorded, and they will be considered as an evidence of
the work developed in them.
● You must turn on your cameras and your microphones during the sessions.
● Be sure to have all materials needed for the lesson: notebook, pen and pencil, English dictionary,
etc. It is also important to have a computer with a camera and a good pair of earphones or
headphones.
● The use of online translators is not recommended; instead, try to structure your own ideas and
your own vocabulary and with the help of the teacher.
● Make sure you do independent work on the Cambridge Empower platform on a regular basis. If
you do the work from the very beginning, you will clarify doubts and reinforce what you are
learning in class. If you dedicate about 20 minutes per session, the work will be done by the end
of each unit. Your platform and Moodle grades in each term will reflect the work you do along
the course.
● Choose optimal working conditions to attend your online classes and to do your independent
work on the platforms (Cambridge and Moodle); that will improve your concentration and
learning.
● Do all the activities on the platforms since the contents are taken into account in the evaluations
and if you do them, you will get better results.
● Avoid distractions with the cell phone and/or other technological devices during the sessions;
otherwise, use them as a complement of your classes or according to the teacher’s instructions.
● All work completed and turned in should be your OWN work, not corrected or completed by a
friend/family member or taken from the Internet.
● If you are absent from class, you must present a validated doctor’s note or a validated excuse
from the university within three school days.
● If you are absent for any exam session, it may be taken only under the presentation of a
certificate from the University’s doctor or with an authorized letter from the Institute within
three school days.
● If a session is missed, the student is responsible to find out what was missed in class.
● Changing groups is not permitted unless authorized by the Director of the Institute

To succeed in this process of language learning:

● Participate actively in all tasks taking place during the course: autonomous learning exercises;
classroom oral and written exercises, video lessons, Language Club, etc. REMEMBER: Mistakes
are GOOD! They help us to learn!
● Get involved in extra-academic activities organized and provided by the Language Institute:
tutorials, Language Club, international week, etc.
● Practice in Moodle, and Cambridge Empower platform.
● Take advantage of the audio program provided along with the e-book and textbook. This will be
an excellent listening and pronunciation practice.
● Listen to music, watch movies, and TV in English. You can also set your email, Twitter, and
Facebook account into English.
