Purpose: This CSI form captures information specific to each professor’s delivery of a
course. It is distributed to students as a separate document in addition to the course
outline, ideally at the same time as the course outline at the start of the course, but can
be reviewed with them later when necessary. It provides some opportunity for individual
personalization within the collegeprovided course outline framework generated by our
Course Outline Mapping and Management System (COMMS). It is especially relevant
where there is more than one professor teaching the same course to different classes.
COMMS is very helpful to us in providing the evidence our quality assurance processes
need, ensuring Vocational Learning Outcomes (VLOs) and Essential Employability
Skills (EESs) that we are required to teach within our programs are both taught AND
assessed by the appropriate courses within each program. CSI forms are stored in
COMMS after approval.
Relevant video links and articles will be provided as applicable within the Course
Content of each weekly lesson.

Power Points, materials, handouts and/or appropriate material will be available on Blackboard for each
Module/Unit. Each student is asked to have these available and prepared during class time.
The final grade is not the result of a rigidly applied formula. Like a true business environment, punctuality,
attendance and participation will be closely monitored by the professor and are important and required
components to a final positive result. These factors will be important considerations throughout and at the
end of the term. If you miss a class, you are required to give valid reasons for your absence to the
professor, and you are responsible to get all materials and notes for the missed class. In case of a missed
test or assignment, the professor will adhere to the departmental policies and guidelines.
As a matter of respect all students are required to observe a high level of classroom decorum and respect
for their fellow students and professor. Speaking while the instructor or professor is talking is prohibited
and is required to be kept to a minimum. Due to individualistic learning needs and requirements, many
students cannot learn effectively in a loud or distracting classroom and require a quiet learning
experience. Additionally, due to requirements for academic integrity all speaking and vocalization is
prohibited during any test or evaluation. Any student who routinely contravenes this policy will be ordered
to leave the classroom, and will be responsible for any missing class work.
For the purposes of equity and fairness, scheduled tests must be written on the date and at the time
specified. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure appointments, travel plans, etc. do not conflict
with scheduled tests.
Should an unavoidable, extenuating circumstance prevent a student from writing a scheduled test, the
professor must be contact BEFORE the scheduled test. The reason for the absence must be
accompanied by appropriate documentation the day the student returns to school, and arrangements may
be made to reschedule the missed test.
Appropriate documentation may allow the student to complete that test; however, a rescheduled test will
be allowed only to a student who attends classes on a regular basis and whose in-class assignments and
other coursework are complete and up-to-date. Rescheduling a test will be permitted only once during the
semester. A grade of 0 will be given for subsequent unwritten tests and any tests unaccompanied by
appropriate documentation. This policy will be strictly observed.
Note: Only students who show a commitment to their course work (through their attendance, participation,
readings, respect for others, cooperation, and collaboration) will be considered for such an alternative
test/exam/practical/presentation date.
For the purposes of ensuring his/her own academic success, if a student is aware of ongoing academic,
health, or personal issues which may interfere with his/her course work or evaluation, the student should
inform the professor of such issues very early in the semester to discuss possible strategies for adapting to
or resolving those issues.
1. Students can email the professor at savonij@northern.on.ca. Please include the purpose and
instructions for reaching the student.
Department Policy
The department plans to follow this course outline as closely as possible within the limitations of the
available time and resources. However, the professor may make modifications to course contents,
delivery, grading schemes and evaluation policies, whenever such changes become necessary. The
departmental policies will be adhered to under all circumstances. The department has a strong
commitment to offering high quality education and practical up-to-date training throughout this course,
keeping the best interests and job readiness of the students in mind.
The college reserves the right to make changes to the course outline whenever it is considered
necessary. Please refer to the student handbook and the business administration departmental policies
for further guidelines.
Please note that policies on Academic Appeals, Academic Dishonesty, Evaluation and Tracking of
Student Progress, Protocol for Assignments, Test and Exams, and Advanced Standing, are available in
your student handbook. All college academic policies are also available on the college website at
