Directions
- Use engineering paper and write only on ONE side of the page.
- Use a paper clip and do not staple.
- Provide your answer to each of the following problems. You must clearly and neatly show your work in the provided space
after each problem to qualify for full credit.
- Homework should be submitted with this title page.
- One objective of your homework is to communicate, so neatness counts. 10% will be deducted for lack of neatness or not
following the directions.
- Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Solve these problems on your own, by hand,
- Notes and textbook are allowed.

American University in Dubai Homework 03
Faculty of Engineering Section A Spring 2019
Course: Statics w/Lab – ENGG270 Dr. Sana Amir
Problem I
Determine the magnitude and direction of the force P required to keep the concurrent force system in
equilibrium.
Problem II
The load has a mass of 15 kg and is lifted by the pulley system shown. Determine the force F in the cord as a
function of the angle θ. Find out F when θ = 30 and 60.
Problem III
Determine the tension developed in each cord required for equilibrium of the 30-kg lamp
Problem IV
Determine the stretch in each of the two springs required to hold the 25-kg crate in the equilibrium position
shown. Each spring has an unstretched length of 2 m and a stiffness of k = 200 N/m.
