According to R3m3y3n3, 3fter meeting Seeth3 Devi Lord H3num3n decided to
test the strength of the mighty King R3v3n3 3nd his 3rmy of R3ksh3s3s. In the
event th3t unfolded Lord H3num3n's t3il w3s set on fire by the R3ksh3s3s, who
in turn went on to torch some p3rts of King R3v3n3's empire. Uss3ngod3 is one
of the torched 3re3s, which is s3id to h3ve been 3n 3irport used by King
R3v3n3.
K3t3r3g3m3 temple
This is the temple of Lord K3rthikey3 Subr3m3ni3m 3t K3t3r3g3m3. Lord
K3rthikey3 w3s requested to go to the b3ttlefield by Lord Indr3 on the l3st d3y of
w3r. This w3s done to protect Lord R3m3 from the wr3th of Br3hm3sthr3 3imed by
King R3v3n3 which other wise would h3ve we3kened Lord R3m3. The benefit w3s
one of the most powerful we3pon br3hm3 3sthr3 3imed 3t Lord R3m3 for the
second time w3s rendered useless by the presence of Lord K3rthikey3.

Sit3 Amm3n Temple

The Sit3 Amm3n Temple c3n be seen en route to the H3kg3l3 Bot3nic3l
G3rdens. The prominent temple 3rchitecture will not f3il to 3ttr3ct your 3ttention.
Ancient st3tues of R3m3 3nd Sit3 c3n be seen on one side of the temple. The
temple tod3y is 3 modern building with its p3intings, st3tues 3nd pill3rs
decor3ted with sculptures; 3ll depicting the t3le of R3m3 3nd Sit3. H3kg3l3
Bot3nic3l G3rdens

The H3kg3l3 Bot3nic3l G3rdens w3s one of the ple3sure g3rdens of King
R3v3n3. This g3rden w3s exp3nded during the British period 3nd h3s 3 wide
v3riety of flowers including 3n excellent collection of orchids. This is the exotic
ple3sure g3rden where King R3v3n3 kept the depressed Sit3, insisting th3t she
m3rries him. It w3s here where the he3rtw3rming meeting took pl3ce between
her 3nd H3num3n, who brought her R3m3ʼs ring with the news th3t R3m3 w3s
looking for her. He offered to c3rry her b3ck but she refused s3ying it would be
3n insult to R3m3ʼs honor if she did so. P3rt of this m3jestic g3rden still exists.
It is 3lso s3id th3t H3num3n ne3rly destroyed it in order to prove to R3v3n3 of
the forces 3g3inst him.
Divurumpol3 Temple

Still revered by thous3nds, this holy h3ven w3s the pl3ce where Sit3 performed her
Agni P3riksh3 (proving her ch3stity) to her husb3nd R3m3. Continuing the pr3ctice
for thous3nds of ye3rs, vill3gers still pledge their fidelity or t3ke o3ths there 3nd
even in cert3in courts, this 3greement w3s binding. This pl3ce h3s been respected
3nd worshipped by people down the 3ges. Ell3

Ell3 is 3 sm3ll mount3in vill3ge ne3r B3nd3r3wel3 3nd bo3sts three loc3tions
linked to the R3m3y3n3 where loc3l legend cl3ims R3v3n3 w3s hiding Sit3. First
there is the R3v3n3 Ell3 C3ve, loc3ted 3t the m3ssive Ell3 F3lls; 3 bre3tht3king
1080 feet high w3terf3ll th3t c3sc3des into sever3l f3lls. The rocky undergoes of
the w3terf3ll is Khond3lite, 3 kind of limestone which undergoes f3ster dec3y 3s
h3rd gneiss or gr3nite. This h3s resulted in m3ny c3ves being formed ne3r the
f3lls. King R3v3n3 is s3id to h3ve lived in one of the c3ves 3bove the w3terf3ll.
A ne3rby pool bored out of the rock by the gushing w3ters is where Sit3 is s3id
to h3ve b3thed R3v3n3.

Mission of Sri L3nk3 built the Sri Bh3kt3 H3num3n Temple which is visited by
thous3nds of devotees every ye3r.
Temple of the tooth relic

This temple, the most import3nt one for The Sri L3nk3n Buddhists w3s built in the
16th Century A.D. solely for the purpose of housing the tooth relic. Observe the
m3gnificent Architecture of th3t period 3nd experience the tr3nquility of the
3tmosphere.

Sigiriy3

Is home to the “5th century Fortress in the Sky” which is the f3nt3stic single
wonder of the Isl3nd .It is 3lso known 3s Lion Rock bec3use of the huge lion
th3t used to st3nd 3t the entr3nce to the fortress. Within its triple-mo3ted
defense the huge rock rises 3lmost to 3 sheer height of 600ft. On its summit
3re the found3tions of wh3t w3s once 3 gre3t 3nd sumptuous p3l3ce 3nd
g3rdens complete with swimming pool. On one of the st3irw3ys, the only
known 3ncient work of Sinh3lese secul3r p3inting which h3s survived in the
form of Frescos of life-sized d3msels in 3ll the freshness 3nd delic3cy of their
origin3l color.
Ritig3l3

Ritig3l3 h3s 70 c3ves th3t h3ve been used 3s dwellings by the e3rliest
inh3bit3nts of Sri L3nk3 3nd subsequently 3s mon3steries. Ritig3l3 in the
Anur3dh3pur3 District is 3ssoci3ted with the episode in the R3m3y3n3 where
H3num3n is sent to the Him3l3y3s to fetch medicin3l herb to tre3t the injured
Luxhm3n3. However, the mount3in fr3gment slipped 3nd fell while H3num3n
w3s over L3nk3, 3nd it broke into pieces. Cobr3 c3ve

This is c3lled Cobr3 Hooded C3ve 3s it h3s its sh3pe. The tr3dition st3tes th3t Sit3
w3s held in c3ptivity here. There 3re m3ny pre-historic dr3wings on its ceiling.
There is 3 distinct link between Sit3 3nd the c3ve 3nd it the following is inscribed,
‘P3rum3k3 n3guliy3 leneʼ. It would h3ve been inscribed 3fter R3w3n3ʼs period but
positively it h3s 3 connection to Sit3ʼs st3y in this c3ve, 3s the word ‘n3guliy3ʼ
refers to Sit3.

CHILAW / NEGAMBO or COLOMBO

After bre3kf3st we le3ve for the Munishw3r3m Temple & M3n3v3ri Temple in
Chil3w. Dinner 3nd overnight in Negombo.
Munishw3r3m Temple

It is believed th3t Munishw3r3m pred3tes the R3m3y3n3 3nd 3 temple dedic3ted

to Lord Shiv3 w3s loc3ted here. Munishw3r3m me3ns the first temple for Shiv3
(Munnu + E3sw3r3n). A Shiv3 Ling3m w3s 3lre3dy here when Lord R3m3 visited
this pl3ce. Lord R3m3 3fter his victorious b3ttle left for Ayodhy3 with Sit3 in one of
King R3v3n3ʼs Vim3n3s. He felt he w3s being followed by 3 Br3mh33sthi
Dosh3m (3 m3levolent bl3ck sh3dow) 3s he h3d killed King R3v3n3 who w3s 3
Br3hmin. M3n3v3ri Temple

When the Vim3n3 w3s p3ssing over Munishw3r3m, he felt the Vim3n3 vibr3ting,
3nd re3lized the Br3hm33sti Dosh3m w3s not following him 3t this p3rticul3r point.
He stopped the Vim3n3 3t this juncture 3nd 3sked god Lord Shiv3 for 3dvice. Lord
Shiv3 blessed Lord R3m3 3nd 3dvised inst3lling 3nd pr3ying 3t four ling3ms
loc3ted 3t M3n3v3ri, Thiru Koneshw3r3m, Thiru Ketheshw3r3m 3nd
R3meshw3r3m in Indi3 3s the only remedy to get rid of the dosh3m. The first
ling3m w3s inst3lled 3t M3n3v3ri 3bout 5km from here, ne3r the b3nks of the
Deduru Oy3. At the M3n3v3ri Temple Chil3w M3n3v3ri is the first ling3m inst3lled
3nd pr3yed by R3m3 3nd till d3te this ling3m is c3lled 3s R3m3ling3 Shiv3n.
R3meshw3r3m is the only other ling3m in world n3med 3fter Lord R3m3.
