COVID-19

The last few days we have been presented with a health phenomenon that is perhaps
worrying. Our mass media - as well as possibly including the social media timeline - are widely
reviewing about Coronavirus infections. The viral disease that scientists call Novel Coronavirus
(which means a new type of coronavirus, abbreviated 2019-nCov) is also known as the Wuhan Flu
virus. Coronavirus is thought to be zoonotic, which is initially transmitted through animals. This is
suspected from the genetic makeup of the virus which is still in the same family as SARS, the host of
which is a type of weasel and mammals; and MERS, which is transmitted through livestock
intermediaries, especially camels. Many types of coronaviruses have been identified by researchers,
and are known to infect six new humans including 2019-nCov, SARS, and MERS with their respective
characteristics.

This 2019-nCov infection attacks the upper and lower respiratory organs, attaching to the
lining of the airways from the nose, throat, to the lungs. In some cases, this infection can be
asymptomatic or just like the common cold. But considering the incubation period of this disease
around 2 to 14 days, then in this time span the condition of the body needs to be observed. This
virus is transmitted between humans through the air from coughing or sneezing, skin contact, or
after handling a place exposed to the virus. Symptoms of respiratory infections due to coronavirus in
general are fever, spasms, difficulty breathing and spasms, followed by other symptoms such as joint
pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and decreased appetite. Symptoms can be severe in the case of
patients with weak immunity or who have had certain diseases before. In certain conditions, this
disease causes pneumonia (pneumonia). Like most viruses that spread through the air (droplet),
coronavirus is considered to be very contagious, characterized by high numbers of case reports in a
not too long time on a global scale. Although there has not been a statistically fatal mortality rate,
the novelty of this virus, plus the absence of specific therapies and vaccines, has made WHO release
the Novel Coronavirus case as an outbreak, although it has not yet become an endemic outbreak.

Although it is easily transmitted, once again: prevention can begin with self-protection when
sick and maintain the cleanliness of the body, hands and the things we consume. Remember, hands
are the easiest medium of disease transmission so it is important for us to diligently wash hands with
soap or alcohol-based solutions in the right way. In addition, coronavirus disease is reported to be
cured through supportive therapy through intensive care and monitored in hospitals, with
supervision on nutritional intake, overall body system, and administration of drugs that can reduce
symptoms.

These steps include maintaining hand and respiratory hygiene and good food processing.

1. Wash your hands often with alcohol-based hand washing solutions

2. cover mouth and nose when sneezing with folded elbows or tissue. Wipes are immediately
removed, and hands washed immediately.
3. Reducing direct contact with people who are coughing or colds, it is recommended to use a
mask.
4. If you have symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath and difficulty breathing that
occurs more than 3 days, immediately seek treatment at the nearest health care facility. In
unhealthy conditions should not travel or consult a doctor first.
