Unit Summary: Chapters 6 and 7 of the Voices and Visions textbook. The chapters explore the
history of Canada with a focus on how political, economic and military events contributed to the
foundations of Canada.
Specific Learner Outcomes: The SLOs addressed in the chapters are as follows:

 7.1.6.5: How did the War of 1812 contribute to British identity in Canada?

Introduction to chapter 6. The If You Really Knew Me
students will learn what the
chapter is about. I will
introduce myself as their
student teacher and learn
about the students
individually.
The students will learn about If You Really Knew Me (due)
the War of Independence, the
United Empire Loyalists, and
who Rose Fortune was.
The students will finish off Biography of Tecumseh
learning about the Loyalists
at the beginning of class. The
lesson will explore the
reasons for the War of 1812,
the role of Tecumseh in the
war.
Go over Tecumseh’s bio at
the beginning of the lesson.
Explore Laura Secord, the
end of the War of 1812, and
the Great Migration
Exploration of the Great
Migration, including the Irish
potato famine, Grosse Ile, and
the life the pioneers would
have lived.
Exploration of the
Underground Railroad and a
new government in the
colonies. Explore the groups
led by Papineau and
Mackenzie and the reasons
for unrest in the colonies.
