SECTION B (Attempt any Two Questions)

6. A local warehouse purchases hand tools from various suppliers and then distributes them
on demand to retailors in the region. The warehouse operates 5 days per week, 52 weeks [10]

15
per year. The following data are estimated for one product
Average daily demand = 500 drills
Standard deviation of daily demand = 50 drills
Supplier lead time = 5 days
Carrying cost = Rs 20 per unit per year
Ordering cost = Rs 55 per order
Service level = 95 per cent
Design an inventory system for this product

7. (a) Discuss the role of shipping in logistics. How is the freight rate of a transport
company decided? [5+5=10]
(b) What do you mean by Incoterms? Discuss ‘EXW’ and ‘FCA’ in brief
8. (a) Discuss the role of logistics in design of distribution channels?

9. (a) What do you mean by 3PL? What are strategic advantages of logistics outsourcing? [6+10 =16]
(b) A multi national company decides to use London as its manufacturing base for the
supply of printers to the Asian markets. The company offers types of printers: high-end,
standard and low-end. All three types of printers offered by the firm are similar in size
and shape. The only differences are in the software and the chip used in the printers. The
models of printers cost Rs.25,000, Rs.20,000 and Rs.15000 per unit respectively. If the
firm decides to use air as the mode of transport, it can fly the goods in smaller lots of
100 units, while shipping via sea requires minimum shipment size of 400 units. The
demand in the Asian market is stable at 100 units per week for each of three types of the
three printers. The transportation and custom clearance take one week if air is used as
the mode of transport, the same will take four weeks if sea is used the medium of
transport. Air freight is Rs.350 per unit while sea freight is Rs.100 per unit. The annual
inventory carry cost for the firm is 20 per cent of the cost of the item.

Suggest the optimum mode of transport?

4. Quiz Test: Two quiz tests would be conducted after completion of 25% and 100%
of the syllabus coverage. This test will of 20 marks each (total 10 marks weightage )
and will be multiple choice based questions. This test will assess student’s
conceptual knowledge on the topics discussed in the class.
5. Case Study Analysis: This will assessment where students will be given a case to
analyse in depth and Students will be marked on their performance out of 10
marks.
6. Assignments: A minimum two assignments of 5 marks would be given to the
student. The student will be required to solve This will carry 10 marks.
