Teacher Performance Task:
Building Relationships with Students
Context: All Lodestar teachers are also crew leaders (EL Core Practice 23). They ensure
that students in their crew are well known and supported by peers and adults.
Performance Task Deliverable: Plan a Crew experience for a group of ~18 students (Grade
4) that allows you to get to know students and fosters the students’ sense of purpose,
belonging, and agency.
Preparation:
1. Create a lesson plan for a crew experience.
2. Be prepared to talk through your lesson plan with staff, explaining the decisions you
have made in building relationships.
3. Staff will give you feedback on your lesson plan
Teacher Performance Task:
Data Analysis
Context: Lodestar teachers use a variety of sources of data to understand what students
know and the progress they are making towards grade-level mastery (EL Core Practices 29
and 30).
Performance Task Deliverable: You are being given work samples from three different
Grade 3 students addressing 3.NBT.2.
Analyze these work samples and be prepared to discuss them with your coach (in this case,
played by your Principal, Mr. Torney). Be specifically prepared to discuss:
● What do these students know with respect to 3.NBT.2?
● What gaps are there between these students’ current performance and mastery of
3.NBT.2?
● What are your next steps in supporting these students in closing these gaps?

Teacher Performance Task:
Family Phone Call
Context: Lodestar teachers play a central role in supporting students with holding high
expectations. A key part of this is contacting families -- sometimes during class -- to keep
students focused on learning.
Performance Task Deliverable: One of your students has been having a hard time getting
started with work. She has been socializing with peers and you have already given her
reminders and a chance to take a break in your classroom and in a buddy room. She returns
to class and continues to socialize with peers. You will make a simulated phone call (in this
case, to her father) in which you let the family know what is happening and enlist their
support in getting her back on track.
Preparation:
1. You will have up to 10 minutes for the conversation.
2. After the conversation, you will have the chance to reflect on how it went. The team
will also give you feedback.
3. After your reflection and feedback, you will have a chance to replay the
conversation, making any adjustments based on your reflection and feedback.
