Deixis And Reference And Their Types.

Deixis is the process of expressing about a person, places and time which the meaning
depend on the context. The expression is such as I, we, you, this, that, here, there, now, yesterday,
next week.

There are 3 types of Deixis.

1. Person Deixis (Me, You)
2. Spatial Deixis (Here, There)
3. Temporal Deixis (Now, Then)

 Person Deixis means refering the different person involved in a communicative event. It
means it refers to the person that people talk about.
1st person : me, we
2nd person : you
3rd person : she, he, they,it
 Spatial Deixis means refering to the place where people or objects are being indicated
Ex : here, there, come, go
 Temporal Deixis means refering to the time which the speaker talks. Time deixis makes
ultimate reference to participant-role.
Ex : now, yesterday, tomorrow, today, months, afternoon.

Reference is act that done by a speaker so that the listener can understand and identify the intention of
the speaker.

A. Proper Nouns : Anggi, Tony, Baek Hyin, Daniel
B. Definite NPs : The Teacher, The Police
C. Indefinite Nps : A Man, A Girl, A Woman, A Boy
D. Pro : She, He
