Question

It is believed that developing a good transportation system is the best way to solve the problem of
transportation in big cities.
To what extend do you agree or disagree to the opinion?

Answer

I do agree that developing a good transportation system is the best way to solve the problem
transportation in big cities. Transportation is the pulse for the smooth operation of all operational
activities for humans. The human need for transportation is almost unstoppable and is increasing
from time to time. Good and smooth transportation will be very useful for many parties in their
efforts to achieve each goal desired by each of these parties, especially in terms of the economic
sector. Transportation is also one of the keys that is most considered by wiman and wisnu to visit a
tourist destination.

However, in reality, transportation infrastructure that is clearly visible is not able to accommodate
the large number of vehicles that are booming so that it always causes congestion. As a case study in
the City of Yogyakarta, which is quoted from a summary of the research thesis on transportation
governance (Efendi, 2014), the growth of congestion in the city of Yogyakarta is characterized by a
higher number of private vehicles than the number of available roads. According to 2008 statistics,
transportation in Jogja is dominated by motor vehicles which account for 83.5% of which only 2.5%
are public transportation or buses. Although in 2008 Transjogja was launched, the ratio is 1:30
motorbike (bisnis-jateng.com, 2012). Even many of one family in Indonesian society has more than
one motorized vehicle. This is because the quality of public transportation is inadequate, causing
reluctance for people to use it.

With the aim of reducing the capacity of private vehicles on highways, the most appropriate thing is
to divert people to be able to use only public transportation in the city. Therefore, improve and
develop public transportation in order to become better is very important for the welfare of society
and to prevent traffic congestion. Some steps that should be taken to improve the public
transportation system :

 Improve public transportation facilities

 Adding new services to public vehicles to attract public interest
 Facilitate access to public transportation
 Tightening security on all public vehicles

From the several points above, it can be predicted that people's interest will be higher to want to
use public transportation. In addition to reducing the number of private vehicles and reducing traffic
jams on the road, riding public transportation can also reduce carbon emissions that thin the earth's
ozone layer which makes the surface of the earth hotter and unhealthier.
