COMPANY PROFILE
A. Company History
The steps of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero), hereinafter referred to as PT RNI
(Persero), began in the middle of the XIX century. On March 1, 1863, Oei Tjien Sien founded
a agricultural product trading company named NV Handel My Kian Gwan in Semarang. In its
development, NV Handel My Kian Gwan then became a holding company that oversees a
number of businesses including trade, sugar industry, rubber plantations, pharmaceutical
industry, financial services, property and others.
1885 was a new beginning for NV Handel. Oei Tjien Sien's son, Oei Tiong Ham continued
his father's leadership. The company was later renamed to Oei Tiong Ham Concern (OTHC),
the first business conglomerate company in the archipelago. OTHC ran the business until
1961 when the government of the Republic of Indonesia took over the holding company.
After nationalizing OTHC, the Government of Indonesia manages all company assets. Some
of the company's assets were included as capital investments to establish PT Rajawali
Nusantara Indonesia's National Economic Development Company (PPEN) on October 12,
1964. This is the date of the establishment of PT RNI (Persero). At the beginning of its
establishment, PT RNI (Persero) had 10 Subsidiaries.
In 1964-1985, PT RNI (Persero) focused on rehabilitation of production equipment to
encourage increased productivity. The change of company status to "Persero" was carried out
to fulfill Law Number 9/1969 and Government Regulation Number 5/1974. Furthermore,
during 1986-1998, a number of business units were merged, expansion of business areas
outside Java, and the development of new business units.
PT RNI (Persero) in 2001-2003 began to establish itself as a holding company that did not
operate and became an investment holding. In this selective development phase, the focus of
the RNI is the optimization of the performance of the group of companies. Meanwhile, the
company began to carry out a number of diversifications to maximize added value in the
period 2004-2009. This is achieved by utilizing by-products and developing the company's
strategic business.
