Introduction
This report seeks to identify wooden landmarks in Guyana that have deteriorated overtime with the aim of
devising solutions to address this urgent issue such as the St. George Cathedral which is standing majestically at
the centre of the church street and North road, is one of the most famous Guyanese architectural wonders. This
landmark is known as the tallest wooden structure in the western hemisphere, stand at the height of 143 feet
according to [ CITATION Lid19 \l 2057 ]. As a result, it would have been added to the itinerary of popular tour
operators in Guyana. However due to the poor maintenance and management of these wooden historical
landmarks there has been a decline of the number of persons who wishes to site see. These architecture wonders
have since been occupied by vagrants, street workers and rodents.
Statement of problem
 To identify the urgent repairs needed to be done on a preserve wooden structure.

 To investigate the challenges faced by management personnel place in charge of the landmark.
 Can VCA (Venture Consulting Agency) as a small start up company assist in the restoration of the
architecture wonders.
Background
Minister of Cohesion Dr. George Norton and others have over the years diverted towards high earning
monuments, landmarks such as the miraculous one drop falls in the world known to be the Kaieteur falls
[ CITATION Isa18 \l 2057 ] .As a result to such acts the other landmarks have gradually excluded wooden
landmarks such as the St. George’s Cathedral and focus on dagron tours, evergreen adventures, monument
tours, wilderness explore etc. [ CITATION Exp14 \l 2057 ] . The Minister of cohesion Dr. George Norton and others

within the body that is in charge of the wooden landmarks across Guyana is known to be too small to keep up to
speed with maintenance. These historic architectural structures are well known due to their unique appearances.
The landmark which captures Venture Consulting Agency’s attention is the St. George’s Cathedral located at
the Centre of Church street and North road which is 143 feet in height known as the tallest wooden structure in
the world established in 1889 on the 8th of November. In spite of the major evolving repairs, this landmark is
standing 177 years old now. This building/ landmark is not just known for its height or the years standing but
also its remarkable detailing both internally and externally (hand-carved moldings to the majestic, stained glass
windows, Gothic arches, clustered columns, flying buttresses, arched ceiling and built-in musical organs with
musical pipes). After further research, it was found that Arthur Bloomfield was selected to design a plan of the
St. George’s Cathedral. Also, this remarkable structure is known to be close to the history of the city. It was said
that in the colonial days, when the British ruled Guyana, cities will only come into being after cathedrals are
built. The city of Georgetown is 176 years old, and the St George’s Cathedral is a year older. In 1842, when
Percy Austin became Bishop of the Anglican Church, he consecrated the building and named it the St George’s
Cathedral after King George of course, and consequently, the city became known as Georgetown,” said
Davidson. This impressive wooden structure was said to be a well respectable and unblemished building.
But according to Kaieteur news over 3 years this structure has been deteriorating without any maintenance.
Kaieteur news also stated that the so called whitely painted structure is now peeling, the form walls are caving
in and the windows are in bad condition. They later stated that the lawns an attraction spot for prostitutes and
vagrants. The venture consulting agency have to utilize a variety of strategies to successfully complete this
report as efficient as possible. In addition, this report encompasses a vast number of materials needed along
with the financial statements to support the cost of such repairs.[ CITATION Jar19 \l 1033 ]

Reason for investigation
 Why did the resources devote to the restoration of these structure has been reducing over the years by
the minister of cohesion?
 To decentralise the team, I charge of the renovation being done to the landmarks, so that there will be
people put in place across Guyana to keep up the maintenance of the landmarks.
 Hosting sensitization workshops both locally and further a field to bring awareness to the beauty.
 To promote persons from the regions to be involved in the restoration of the landmarks with in the
district.
