Respected Sir/Madam,

I hope this letter finds you and all members of your family in best of health and spirits.
You must be aware about the pandemic situation prevailing throughout the globe, including our
country. A country-wide lockdown has been imposed. Our government in Odisha, which has been
taking many effective measures proactively, has been the first state to extend the lockdown till end of
April, 2020. There has been a lot of uncertainty for all of us.
At this critical juncture when the country is fighting to contain the spread of COVID-19, we have
developed an exclusive COVID-19 Hospital with 500 beds including 50 ICU beds at Kalinga Institute
of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital - a unit of KIIT (An Institution of Eminence). This COVID-19
Hospital is located away from the main hospital premises.
We have also set up three 200-bedded isolated COVID-19 Hospitals in the districts of Kandhamal,
Bolangir and Mayurbhanj for the safety and security of people living in remote areas of the state.
These hospitals have become operational with effect from 14th April, 2020 and our medical staff are
working round the clock to ensure smooth running of the COVID-19 Hospitals.
I trust your wards are staying with you and in good health and great spirits, even though the time is
challenging. We are missing them here, no doubt. However, you couldn’t have got a better time to
give your love, affection and guidance in person and motivate them with strong morals.
KIIT and KISS are also closed because of the lockdown. However, around 500 Indian and 500 foreign
students have been stuck up who are being taken good care of in their respective hostels and I am
glad to say, they are all enjoying good health and great spirits as well.
I am glad to inform that KIIT is the first university to start online classes since the very 1 st day of
lockdown and you will be happy to know that around 90-95 percent of our students are attending
online classes regularly. This shows that you are guiding your ward(s) effectively. Our staff members
are trying their level best to give the students best possible learning experience through these online
classes. KIIT is also planning to conduct online examination in view of the circumstances likely to
ensue in the coming days.
I take this opportunity to share my pleasure that, like previous years, KIIT has completed nearly 90
per cent placement for the students of 2020 passing out batch. We are hopeful that another 5%
students will be placed through online test/interview for which the placement department is taking
care of.
The placement for 2020-21 passing out batch was scheduled to commence from 1st of April 2020, but
because of the pandemic situation, it has been delayed. However, our training and placement
department is taking steps for campus placement inviting national and multinational companies on
Day-Zero with effect from 20th of April, 2020.
It is my pleasure to share the above for favour of your kind information.
Please stay home, stay safe.
With regards,
Yours truly,

(Prof. Achyuta Samanta)
