The Copperbelt University is constructing a double storey office

block. A typical floor plan of the building structure as provided by the


School of built environment Architects is as shown in the figure
below.

Design Information
The slab supports an imposed load of 4 kN/m2 and finishes of 1.5
kN/m2. The overall sizes of the beams are 450x300mm and the slab
thickness is 175mm as indicated on the drawing. The columns are
300x 300 mm. The characteristic strength of the concrete is 30
N/mm2 and of the steel reinforcement is 460 N/mm2 and 250 N/mm2
for the links. The fire resistance requirements is 1 Hour for all
elements.The self weight of concrete is 24kN/m3
