The student will
a) read, write, and identify the place and value of each digit in a three-
digit numeral, with and without models;
b) identify the number that is 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less
than a given number up to 999;
c) compare and order whole numbers between 0 and 999; and d)
round two-digit numbers to the nearest ten.
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to identify if one
number is grater or less than another number by looking at the tens
and one place. The teacher will introduce place value for two-digit
numbers to students and teach them how to identify if a number is
greater than another number by looking the tens and ones place. Once
students understand how to correctly use the “<” and “>” symbol, they
will use the SMART board to do practice problems and collaborate with
one another. The teacher should place students in small groups (4
groups total). Using the SMART board, the teacher should download
the activity link listed below.
One of the activities will look like this. The groups should take turns
collaborating with one another and send one representative up to the
SMART board to drag the “greater than” or “less than” boxes into the
appropriate place. Each group will have a small white board and white
 board marker at their group and once the student finishes dragging the
boxes onto the SMART board, each group will write “agree” or
“disagree” on their whiteboards and hold them up for the teacher to
see. This allows the teacher to ensure that each group is understanding
and comprehending what is being taught. This should be repeated until
every student has had a chance to drag and drop the boxes on the
SMART board.
