ACTIVITIES TO EXPLOIT AND EXPLORE ‘ONE INCH TALL’ POEM FOR YEAR 6

1. Activity for above average pupils.

Name of the activity: Summarizing the poem.

Procedure:

1)Teacher plays the video of ‘One Inch Tall’ poem.

2) Pupils listen carefully to the video.

3) Pupils recite the poem together with guidance from the teacher.

4) Teacher asks if there are pupils who did not understand anything.

5) Teacher asks question to initiate discussion about the theme of the poem.

6) Pupils summarize the main idea of the poem through the discussion.

7) Pupils need to write down about what they learn from the poem.

Example of questions:

i. Do you know what the poem is about?

ii. In your opinion, what is the message of the poem?

iii. What are the themes that can be seen in the poem?

iv. Have you experience anything similar to the poem?


2. Activity for below average pupils.

Name of the activity: Make it visual

Procedure:

1)Teacher plays the video of ‘One Inch Tall’ poem.

2) Pupils listen carefully to the video.

3) Pupils recite the poem together with guidance from the teacher.

4) Teacher explains the meaning of some difficult words in the poem.

5) Teacher ask pupils to come up with a drawing that depicts the poem.

6) Pupils explain to their friends the meaning of their drawing and which part it depicts to.
