Play observation

In this time, I can observe a class of 24 months students at a local preschool. There were
2 adults in the class playing and taking care of their students. The class is small, they have
differents toys and books for the students, they have a play area in the room and a sensory are
for those children that had sensory issues.
Materials to play with: Stuff animals, Hula hoops, Books, Balls, Trains, Puzzles, Blocks, And
Kinetic sand. Students also love to paint with paint.
Most of the students were interested in the books and the blocks, the love to build towers and
robots with the blocks. I knew that they love the books and the blocks because the teacher had
a lot of them and because most of the time that I were in tat classroom the students were
looking for the books or the blocks at least 5 times. The students learn new words with the
books, most of their books are about colors, shapes, first time at kindergarten, dr. Seuss books,
books that are colorful and with cute lessons. And Students that were engage with the blocks
used a lot of imagination and motor skills.
The students were engage with solidary play at the time that they were doing a activity outside
of the class, they were looking for differents objects such as Easter eggs, stuff animals, or color
blocks, the objective of this activity was to learn to work in groups and communicate with each
other. I see that students implement the parallel play at the time that they could play with the
blocks because they were playing in the same table but individual, all the children were in their
own business. For me the best material to determinate the level of social play are the puzzles, I
felt that this help the children to cooperate with each other and be patience with their
classmates. I see that teachers do not interrupt the play time with of their students at all, they
were awareness about the time and how to interevent when they start to be frustrated with
each other and give them other choses to get out of their frustration.
I learn that I must respect the play time of my students, that even though I want to be with
them and have fun with them, they must build their independence and learn new skills by their
own. Also, that some time some students are more independent than others, and other will
need me the most.
I believe that the 2 materials that I will recommend to the caregivers of the group that I observe
were books about other cultures, and also more sensory stuff for their students with sensory
issues I felt that they not have enough, they have only the kinetic sand and headphones, so I
will recommend them to get more for them .
