WEEKLY JOURNALS

Week Four - Planning

PLANNING

What did you learn from your From my planning I have learnt how much detail you need to
planning this week? use when writing the shooting script, so you get a better
understanding of what you want to do for certain parts of the
song’s narrative. I’ve also gained a better understanding of
the importance of planning and how much time and effort
you need to put into it to make if someone else wanted to
recreate your production, then everything will be laid out for
them easily and clearly.

What issues did you encounter and An issue I faced was starting the shooting script because it
how did you overcome them? took me a while to find a song, so I couldn’t start it until I
found one. To overcome this, I asked some friends to think of
any songs with a good and easy narrative and a catchy tune.
They came up with some good ideas but in the end, I went
with “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran. After finding the
song I didn’t know how to start the shooting script. To
overcome this, I started to write some ideas down to see
where it would lead me, then after a while, I knew what I
wanted, but I would always go back and change a few things
to make it better.

How did you ensure that your I sketched all of my storyboards in my notebook first, so I
storyboards were completed to a had an idea of how I wanted my animation to look at certain
high standard? points. It allowed me to get rid of any storyboards that I
didn’t want and change certain things as I went along, to
make sure that they were exactly how I wanted them to be
as well as being clear and easy to understand.

How has your planning As I said above, I kept on changing my storyboards because I
developed/changed during the didn’t like the way some of them looked, they weren’t clear
planning stage? enough to see what was going on or they didn’t fit the story
of the song, so I kept changing the order and messing
around with them until they were perfect. I also kept
changing the shooting script. Like the storyboards, I created
a draft in my notebook, so I had a rough idea of what I
wanted before I typed it up. But I kept going back and
changing different parts of the script to make sure that
movements fit the story and that it all made sense.

How have you ensured your Like I said in the question above, I kept changing it to make
script/shooting script is of a high sure that the actions of my paper characters fit the narrative
detailed standard? of the song and was easy to understand as well as having. A
detailed description.

How well have you managed and Because I am doing a stop motion music video, I’m using
organised your cast and crew to be paper characters and backgrounds, therefore, all I need is
in available when you need them? my camera and paper, which means that I don’t need any
actors or crew members. I planned this production so if the
Coronavirus got worse and we were in lockdown then I could
still do my production without needing actors, crew
members or locations.

Are you on track for the week? If I think I am on track.

not, how far behind are you?

What work do you need to complete I will double check that I have everything and that nothing is
outside of lessons to stay on track? missing.
