A playable race based on Vivi and black mages from Final Fantasy.

orn from the weave of magic itself, Arcana-born
are creatures of pure magicical energy. Arcana-
Born are created at random and can be born
from the union of any two humanoid creatures.
The birth of an Arcana-Born can be confusing
and scary for the parents, imagine expecting to
give birth to a human baby but instead an
Arcana-Born is what you get.
Arcana-Born are naturally curious beings and seek
answers to questions from any source, whether that source
be from academics, religion, the arts, or even an otherworldy
being. The endless search for lifes questions are what drives
an Arcana-Born, a trait that drives these creatures far from
civilization, hoping that they discover a great secret deep
within the uncharted lands and seas.
Appearance
Arcana-Born are somewhat short creatures with with pure
black forms and featureless faces with the exception of a pair
of pure colored eyes.
They often wear large clothing that covers most of their
form.
Arcana-Born Traits
Creatures born from arcana have the following traits.
Ability Score Increase. You choose to increase your
Dexterity or Constitution by 1.
Age. Arcana-born age at about the same rate as Humans,
reaching maturity at around 18 years old.
Alignment. Arcana-born try to lie low in society and
remain anonymous, following the law is in their nature. Most
Arcana-born are lawful.
Size. Arcana-Born are between 4 to 5 feet tall and average
in weight at about 100 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Magical Darkvision. Although you are not able to see in
the dark like elves or dwarves, you do have the ability to see
through magical darkness such as from the Darkness spell, a
skill that is not common in most creatures.
Ancient Knowledge. You have proficiency in the Arcana
skill.
Sense Magic. You know the Detect Magic spell and are
able to cast it as a ritual once per long rest.
Replicate Spell. If you are able to see a spell being cast by
another creature within 30 feet of you, you are able to
memorize the spell and cast it yourself.
When you memorize a spell you are able to cast it once at
the level it was originally cast at, even if you do not have
access to the spell slot this spell used. Casting a replicated
spell does not consume a spell slot.
You are only able to memorize one spell per long rest and
forget any memorized spells at the end of a long rest.
Languages. You know how to speak, read, and write
Common, Sylvan, and one other language of your choice.
Subraces. There are 3 distinct Arcana-Born subraces:
Charming, Intelligent, and Wise. Choose one for your Arcana-
Born.

Charming Arcana-Born
Arcana-Born that cast with the force of their personality are
often seekers of the arts and are crafty deal makers.
Charming Arcana-Born are often bards, paladins, sorcerers,
or even warlocks.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increase by
2.
Innate Spellcasting. You know the Vicious Mockery
cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Shield
spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when
you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast
the Misty Step spell once and regain the ability to do so when
you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for
these spells.
Intelligent Arcana-Born
The most inquisitive of Arcana-Born are often incredibly
successful wizards and are esteemed artificers. They are
often smarter than they are given credit for and supposedly
discover the most of the world they live in... assuming they
survive to share their tales.
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases
by 2.
Innate Spellcasting. You know the Prestidigitation
cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Find
Familiar spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do
so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you
can cast the Hold Person spell once and regain the ability to
do so when you finish a long rest. Intelligence is your
spellcasting ability for these spells.
Wise Arcana-Born
Respected elders and shamans of druidic circles wish that
they had the wisdom of a Wise Arcana-Born. These creatures
recieve their answers from forces outside of humanoid
control, such as a diety or nature itself.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by
2.
Innate Spellcasting. You know the Guidance cantrip.
When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Faerie Fire spell
once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you
finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the
Pass Without Trace spell once and regain the ability to do so
when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting
ability for these spells.
