Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The students will have an opportunity to research an important figure from the abolitionist and suffrage
movement and then create a digital timeline to share what they have learned. They will have multiple means
of perception by researching texts, articles, videos, ang images on school approved websites like education
discovery and other media found in the library. Each student will present their figure timeline in their own
way they can create a short video, or make an audio clip, or even create a narrated powerpoint to share with
their classmates. They will choose how to present their timelines, and this will provide them with the
opportunity for multiple means of expression in the product they produce.
Lesson idea implementation:
The lesson will begin with an explicit explanation of the standard; SS4H4 Examine the main ideas of the
abolitionist and suffrage movements. a. Discuss contributions of and challenges faced by Susan B. Anthony,
Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Tubman. I will provide an overview
of productivity tools that can be used to present information and we will zero on the web-based productivity
tool called Popplet. I will share with the students; steps needed to gather information and share a checklist
of important information we need to gather on our figures. I will then provide examples of good places to
find the information. Once they have an idea about what this project with intel, I will share with them my
Popplet timeline.

We will then visit the library to provide them access to the resources they will need to complete their own
research. Once they have all collected enough research, I will provide time for each of them to create their
Popplet timelines and finalize their presentations. They will have an entire day to create and finalize. When
students finish, they will share with me and receive feedback on ways to improve and what they did well
during a teacher student conference. Each student will present the next day and the students will provide
peer assessments in the form of glows and grows written down on a handout provided and turned in at the

end of class. Their presentations will be added to our classroom blog and shared with the other classes.

Reflective Practice: I believe utilizing the Beyond the Basic tool Popplet will enhance student learning by
increasing their engagement and creativity. This tool offers them the opportunity to explore resources and
share what they feel is most important.
