Planning and Preparation Evaluation Comments

Miss Hart has developed into a thoughtful and careful planner, using the knowledge of her students'
abilities and learning styles, to plan engaging and pedagogically correct lessons. She states
instructional outcomes at the beginning of each lesson, and then reviews and assesses student learning
at the end of the lesson. She has learned to use the Promethean Board and ActivInspire to create flip
charts to enhance her instruction. She obviously uses the resources provided to her but constantly
seeks out additional resources to further add to student engagement. Her lessons have good pace,
flow and transitions. She has designed multiple assessments based on current Pennsylvania and
National Standards. One of the things of which I am most proud is that Miss Hart will now start her
planning process by looking at the assessment first, thereby ensuring that she plans appropriately. It
has enabled her to both determine emphasis in direct instruction and to plan for the best possible Work
Station activities.

The Classroom Environment Evaluation Comments

Miss Hart developed an instant rapport with the students through her kind and gentle manner. It took
some time for her to find her "teacher voice," but once she did, she became quite effective at managing
procedures, transitions and behaviors. Miss Hart emphasizes that her classroom is a place for fun and
learning and holds high expectations for behavior that is conducive to learning. The children and I will
miss her tremendously when her placement is finished.

Instruction Evaluation Comments

Miss Hart has grown a great deal in this area over the length of the placement. While the activities she
has planned have always been geared to student engagement, what has really changed is the
methodical means of presentation and the depth of questioning. She poses questions and probes until
she finds the answers she wants to hear. She does an excellent job of walking the children from the
shallow and into the deeper pool of higher order thinking, not allowing them to be satisfied with the
most basic response. She and I have spent a great deal of time looking at student work to help to plan
either re-teaching or next steps, as well, so she has learned the value of formative assessment. She
also provides great immediate feedback to the students, in both small and whole group settings.

Professionalism Evaluation Comments

Miss Hart has been among the most honestly self-reflective students teachers with whom I have
worked. She has taken my suggestions and implemented them without reservation. She will critique a
lesson that has not gone as planned just as readily as she will celebrate a lesson that has gone well.
She asks questions, is humble and works tirelessly to be the best educator she can be. I have watched

her develop a confidence that ensures she will be prepared to handle her own classroom. Her
interactions with parents have been respectful and appropriate.

Overall Evaluation Comments

It has been my pleasure to mentor Miss Hart. Watching her grow and develop into a confident and
capable young educator has been a wonderful experience. Urban schools come with their own unique
set of challenges, and Miss Hart rose to meet any challenge that came her way. Her dedication to
constantly improving upon her planning and practice is commendable. Her ability to connect with the
young child seems very natural to her, and I feel she will make a fantastic primary teacher. I wish her
well as she completes her student teaching, and I hope that next year she will be given the opportunity
to teach her very own group of children.
