IRRIGATION & MICROCLIMATE OF LANDSCAPE

Bhupendra Sharma

Every project is a unique in some aspects. How can the microclimate affect the
significant effect on the growth of the landscape? It starts from the plantation to the fully
grown greenery patch including different plants.

Microclimate is not limited to only physical growth of greenery but also the surrounding
area of greenery. Microclimates in landscapes are small localized areas that differ in
temperature, precipitation, and wind protection from the greater surrounding area.
Structures, topographic features, and plant orientation can create microclimates. But
when you are thinking about the lush green garden then you should know about the
microclimatic conditions and how it affects water consumption. In the pictures of same
project, you can see the difference of greenery due different micro climatic condition. So
it is primarily landscape designer concern to consider all the factors.

KL= Ks X Kd X Kmc

Kmc- 1.0 represents an exposed/

unbalanced landscape area

Kmc- 0.5 represents a balanced

landscaped area where plants are
protected from wind, heat absorbing
surfaces etc.

So the irrigation water requirement can be calculated based on the age of the greenery.
When someone see that the plants are dying then then concluding it as less watering
condition, should be avoided as there are many factors that affect the greenery.
