Dose/ Route/Frequency: 0.5 mg PO at bedtime.
Mechanism of Action: Acts on the limbic system, thalamus and
hypothalamus of the CNS to produce hypnotic effects by increasing
level of inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA.
Physiologic classification: Hypnotics
Pharmacologic Classification: Benzodiazepines
Desired Effect: to relieved insomnia.
Indication/s: Short-term treatment (7 to 10 days) of insomnia.
Contraindication/s: Hypersensitive to benzodiazepines;
contraindicated with potent CYP3A inhibitors, including azole
antifungal, nefazodone, ritonavir, indinavir, nelfoinavir, squinavir,
and lopinavir; and use cautiously in patients with impaired hepatic
or renal function, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, sleep apnea,
mental depression, suicidal tendencies or history of drug abuse.
