3 The Effect of Disasters on Maintenance (Pagodas in Sagaing)

The age of old pagodas are over hundred years. Sagaing has the fault which is a major
tectonic structure that cuts through the centre of Myanmar.

The highly active tectonic plate boundary passing through Myanmar means that
earthquakes are also a significant hazard which will destroy our heritage of old pagoda, buildings
etc.

The ancient pagodas in Sagaing that were damaged by the earthquake will be required in a
seven-step process, that are

1. Conduct a preliminary investigation as the first step. It take us four days; they normally
take seven days.
2. In the second step, employ various techniques to inspect the status of each pagoda and
compile a damage report.
3. The third step will be a detailed investigation.
4. The fourth step of the process will be clear the debris.
5. The fifth step will have experts decide which repairs to implement.
6. The budget for repairs will be allocated in the sixth step.
7. Repairs will begin in the final step. [ 1 ]
