Standards:
National Standards for Business Education
Entrepreneurship -
Achievement Standard: Develop a business plan. (Performance expectations underneath
this standard connected to objectives)
Assessment:
Formative –
1. After the content has been presented students will be able to revisit what they have
learned for the day by taking a Kahoot quiz in team mode! Team mode allows students
to collaborate and discuss each question together. This will help me understand which
parts of the lesson need to be revisited before moving on with the next lesson.
Summative -
1. End of unit project including creating a business plan (should include components
discussed in this lesson).
Anticipatory Set: The anticipatory set will include the franchising worksheet. The worksheet
includes a definition of a franchise, franchiser, and franchisee. There is also an example for
students to be able to make connections. Students will be able to work alone or in a group. It
will be a timed two-minute activity with a reward for the student(s) with the longest list of
franchises. This activity gives students an insight of the what the lesson will consist of.
Teaching Strategies:
(Assuming a 47-minute class period like my field experience classroom)
1. Anticipatory Set – activity and class discussion (3 minutes)
2. Components of a business plan – show video and share as a class on smart/white board
(7 minutes)
3. Why businesses must plan – PowerPoint slide (3 minutes)
4. Define equity financing and debt financing, include advantages and disadvantages of
both – PowerPoint slides with visuals (6 minutes)
5. Approaches to starting a small business: franchising and starting from scratch, show
advantages and disadvantages of both – PowerPoint slides (6 minutes)
6. Helping small businesses and entrepreneurs – PowerPoint slide, Small Business
Administration website (6 minutes)
7. Kahoot! (14 minutes)
8. Closure - PowerPoint slides revisiting most important takeaways, and connect to
tomorrows lesson (2 minutes)
Guided Practice:
1. Class discussion after anticipatory set. I will write on the board examples of franchises
students volunteer to share. I will also walk around during the two minutes students are
collaborating.
2. Show a video discussing the components of a business plan. Students will then get to
write on the board what they think is included and pass it on to someone else that
would like to share. Discussion will occur after.
3. Read aloud Kahoot questions and PowerPoint slides
Closure: The class activity we will end with is Kahoot. This will help me establish what
content needs to be addressed right away in the beginning of class the next day before starting
a new lesson. I will officially end class with a few important takeaways and give them a brief
insight into what the next lesson will consist of!

Accommodations: In this lesson plan I will accommodate students by creating guided notes
for students if they ask. This will allow the students to follow along with the lesson while
staying engaged and allowing them to get the important information. This lesson will also
include multiple forms of representation so that there is picture, words, graphics, and tables
that will allow all types of learners to engage with the material.
