Universal Design for Learning (UDL) The video is a great resource as it allows students to replay it as
many times as needed. Because they watch it at home, they are already aware of what they will be
learning in class the following day, which saves a lot of time. The video is also helpful for my
students with learning disabilities, ESOL and ELL because they can watch this movie as many times
as they want. In fact, they can also watch it with their parents to have them explain some of it to them
or translate some of the movie to them.
Lesson idea implementation: The students will first watch this introductory video on “The Different
Seasons in a Year” at home and learn about what identifies with each season. I will pre-assess my
students by having them participate in a think-pair-share about what they know about seasons at the
end of the day. Then, the video will be uploaded that night on the Blog. After the students watch the
video, they will think about the different characteristics of each season. For example, in the summer it
is hot and sunny. In the winter, it is cold and icy/snowy. The following day, we will review concepts
from the iMovie. We will also go into depth about what types of clothing we wear during each season.
We will also discuss the different activities we participate in for each season. For example, in spring,
we may plant flowers. In the summer, we might go to the pool. For the iMovie project, students will
be asked to make a movie with pictures of each season, and a voice over describing the weather that
correlates with that season. In addition to pictures of each season, they will be asked to include a
clothing article and activity that correlates with each season.
Importance of technology: Without using technology in this lesson, students would not engage in the
introduction of this lesson, which is my iMovie. My iMovie introduces the topic and prepares them
for the following day/week. Students will be using technology in order to complete the assignment, so
without it, it would not be possible. The students are utilizing devices and learning how to explore the

features of iMovie along with creating their own! Technology makes this topic fun and interactive for
the students.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The students will only be working on my classroom Blog this
entire time so they should not be on any other websites. They will also be watching this at home so
their parents can closely monitor them while on the computer. The students must always remind
themselves of the internet safety guidelines before use and any inappropriate behavior should be
reported to me.

 Reflective Practice: At first, I thought it would be difficult to include making n iMovie in my

lesson, but it was actually really simple. I also think the students will enjoy the process of
creating a movie with their own pictures and voice overs. I think this activity impacts student
learning because they are using their prior and background knowledge on the topic and
connecting it with new knowledge learned in order to create a product that explains their
thinking. To further extend this project, the students could participate in a science lab. As a
flipped classroom assignment, the students will observe the weather they see at their home for
a week. Then they will use the data they collected at home and bring it to class. This is when
we will learn about measuring weather conditions and record the patterns over time.
