Lesson idea implementation:
My iMovie will be to used get students interested in the topic. It is going to make them wonder how this information is going to be used in the classroom. The video will make them excited to learn about the subject. After watching the introductory video, students will then learn about the project they are going to be assigned. In group of four, they will each be assigned a national holiday. Their task is to create a video over this specific national holiday to teach their friends what they have learned. Students will have an entire week to work on their video. They must include why the holiday is important and who the holiday involves. After creating their videos, the will then show their video to the rest of the class. This allows all students to learn about the national holidays assigned to their grade level. While students are creating the content and videos, I will be walking around the classroom to assists with the technology and making sure they are covering all the important information. I will be assessing the students while they are working to make sure everyone is contributing to the project. I will also assess them at the end of the week when they are presenting their videos, I will then question the students in the group about their national holiday. After hearing their answers, I will provide feedback on their work, and give them tips on what else they could have included if necessary. To wrap up our lesson on national holidays, students will then have to publish their videos on to our classroom website. This allows students to review the holidays again if needed. Importance of technology: Spring 2018_SJB Multi-Media Tools Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to this project because it gets my students to actively involved. I believe that students remember content better if they are actively involved in the lesson. By allowing the students to create their own videos over the national holidays, they are reaching higher levels of creativity and learning. Inspiration (optional): N/A
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
To make sure my students are protected while creating these videos, I will watch them through the entire process. Before starting the project, I will also make sure I have consent from all of the parents in the classroom. While sending out the letter, I will also give the parents the URL to my blog page and a password that will be needed to see the published videos. This allows parents to know that their students are going to be protected at all times. Along with parent permission, all of the students will be given an alias. Reflective Practice: After finishing this lesson, students will be able to create videos over any content they may find interesting. This expands their creativity level for future purposes. They could create videos for other subject areas or even for later grades. Along with students learning about the national holidays, they are learning how to use a valuable tool.
