Comparatives and superlatives

Comparatives (we compare two things):

Short adjectives: ADJ+ER+THAN


Big – small – calm
bigger – smaller – calmer

 A lion is faster than a hyena.


 My mother is calmer than mi father

Long adjectives: MORE+ADJ+THAN


Modern – comfortable – talented
more modern – more comfortable – more talented

 Aldo’s computer is more modern than my computer


 Vicente is more talented than Jairo

Superlatives (maximum in a group):

Short adjectives: ADJ+EST


big – fast - calm

 The cheetah is the fastest land animal.


 Mexico City is the biggest city in Latin America

Long adjectives: MOST+ADJ


modern – comfortable – talented

 Zelda’s computer is the most modern one


 Ludwig was the most talented musician of all time

Irregular adjectives:

Good
C: Typical food is better than fast food
S: My mother’s food is the best

Bad
C: Ricky is worse artist than Paco
S: George is the worst artist of all time
