Comparative adjectives

We use comparative adjectives to compare and contrast two things:

 We use the preposition than

 We use the be verb ( am is are )

One syllable we add ___er than_____= mas que

Tall + er Taller Luis is taller than Matew

Big + er bigger The elephant is bigger than the lion
Short + er shorter
Happy + er happier
Fast + er faster

With 2 or more syllables use more than

Beautiful + more Is more beautiful than Quito is more beautiful than Guayaquil
Dangerous + more Is more dangerous than Mexico is more dangerous than Ecuador
Expensive + more Is more expensive than To fly by a plane is more expensive than to fly by
bus

SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES
We use superlative adjectives to compare or contrast one person, animal thing or idea with all
the other ítems in a group
When we compare one with the rest of the same kind
With one syllable adjective
 We use the be verb
 we add + the _est
Examples:

Tall + est The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world

Young + est Lucy is the youngest person in my family
Fast + est Charles is the fastest person in my school
With two or more syllables adjective we use the most

beautiful The most beautiful Camila is the most beautiful girl in my class
Dangerous The most dangerous The tejar is the most dangerous neigborhood in Quito
creative The most creative The teacher Tere is the most creative of all my teachers
Important The most important The USA is the most important country in the world.
